Negative Attitudes to Labor Unions Show Little Change in Past Decade, According to New Harris Poll

According to a new Harris Poll, most American adults overall, most employed adults and, surprisingly, many union households rate labor unions negatively. Similar feelings, though somewhat less negative, are also felt toward Corporate America. While the American public gives credit to labor unions for improving wages and working conditions for workers, they are widely perceived as being too involved in politics and too concerned with fighting change. These attitudes have not substantially changed since 1993 when a similar Harris Poll was conducted.

Edmunds.com recently tested several of the most often cited gas-saving tips to see which are "urban legends" and which actually save consumers money at the pumps. The tested tips and results were:

Tip: Use cruise control to save fuel. Test Result: True -- at a surprisingly significant level.

Tip: Driving with open windows is far less efficient than using air conditioning.

Test Result: Negligible -- both methods produced roughly the same mileage per gallon.

Tip: To dramatically improve mileage, you must buy a more fuel- efficient vehicle.
