Live play-by-play coverage of NHL games will be carried on XM channels 204 through 209. Later this fall, XM will introduce a dedicated NHL radio channel featuring original programming that will focus on all aspects of the sport. NHL games and the NHL channel will be available to all XM subscribers for no additional charge.
Under its recent ten-year agreement with the NHL, XM will become the exclusive satellite radio network of the NHL beginning with the 2007-2008 season.
NHL games and XM's NHL channel will be available in Canada in the coming months through XM's partner Canadian Satellite Radio (CSR), which is funding a portion of the agreement. CSR has been awarded a license to distribute satellite radio in Canada, as recently approved by the Federal Cabinet.
"The National Hockey League is back, and fans can listen to NHL games in the car, at home, or on the go with XM Satellite Radio," said Eric Logan, executive vice president, XM Satellite Radio. "XM has millions of listeners across the United States, and we're about to expand into Canada, so the timing of this agreement with the NHL couldn't be better."
The NHL is the latest addition to the wide variety of sports programming on XM Satellite Radio. XM is the official satellite radio network of Major League Baseball, NASCAR, IndyCar Series, the PGA TOUR, World Cup Soccer, and the college sports conference ACC, Big Ten, and Pac-10. XM carries live sports and sports talk on ESPN Radio, as well as sports talk radio channels MLB Home Plate, ESPNews Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and Sporting News Radio, plus "The Tony Kornheiser Show" on the Extreme XM channel.
