Modulus Video Expands Its HD and SD MPEG-4 AVC Encoding Solutions With Enhanced Products and Expanded Ecosystem of Partners
Highest Quality AVC Video Compression Combines With Offerings of World-Class Set Top Box Manufacturers and OEM Partners
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Modulus Video, Inc., today unveiled details of a comprehensive demonstration of MPEG-4 AVC encoding solutions that will be on display at the International Broadcasters Convention, RAI Centre, Amsterdam, Stand 1.144, as well as at partner booth's located throughout the show. Solutions from Modulus Video enable satellite, telecommunications and cable providers to deliver new HD digital television services with the highest quality high definition (HD) video using the least amount of bandwidth.
Two new innovative products from Modulus Video will make their IBC debuts:
High Definition MPEG-4 AVC Encoding -- The new ME6000 from Modulus Video is the most powerful HD MPEG-4 AVC encoding platform. The ME6000 provides high quality, full resolution HD video with full support for Main Profile Encoding @ Level 4 to meet the stringent quality requirements of today's operators while using approximately half the bit rate of existing MPEG-2 systems. Several sales of the ME6000 to major Broadcasters and Partners have been closed and prototype systems have been at customer and partner locations for several months undergoing system testing and integration. These early deliveries are a critical step towards completing deliveries of end-to-end mission critical HD encoding solutions. General availability of Modulus Video's award winning HD solutions will begin shortly after IBC.
System Management -- Modulus Video has dramatically extended the capabilities of all of its encoding systems with the launch of its new MCSM -- Modulus Compression System Manager. With easy to use, intuitive application and web interfaces supported by a secure and resilient architecture, MCSM provides configuration, monitoring, upgrade and fault management for large and small sub-systems. Built on strong, IT-oriented foundations, MCSM has been designed to deliver the high availability necessary in 24/7 broadcast operations. MCSM can support redundant architectures (including MCSM redundancy) and can provide fail-safe data integrity. The system uses an open SNMP interface and standard protocols designed to support alarm forwarding and enable higher level, 3rd party managers to directly and easily control Modulus products.
"Increasing consumer demand for bandwidth hungry high definition television has put MPEG-4 AVC technology on the minds of satellite, telecommunications, broadcast and cable operators worldwide," said Bob Wilson, CEO and chairman of Modulus Video. "Modulus Video is committed to not only ensuring that its encoders deliver the image quality and bandwidth savings operators need to be successful, but we are considering the entire video transport path. We are actively engaged with the world's leading set top box manufacturers, chip makers, systems integrators and others who can help to ensure a seamless, secure introduction of MPEG-4 AVC."
Standard Definition MPEG-4 AVC Encoding -- Modulus will also showcase its standard definition MPEG-4 AVC encoding solutions at IBC. The ME1000 AVC encoder and the MD1000 AVC decoder have both been shipping to customers and partners since late 2004. The Modulus ME1000 is a real-time, full resolution standard definition AVC encoder with full support for Main Profile Encoding @ Level 3. A new video pre-processing option introduced this year further improves picture quality and reduces delivery bandwidth requirements with state of the art motion compensated temporal filtering (MCTF) technology. At IBC, Modulus Video will demonstrate improvements it has made in delivering high video quality at low bit rates for these encoding solutions.
Modulus Video continues to enhance the ecosystem of world-class partners to expand its ability to provide broadcasters with true end-to-end solutions. Some recent examples, many which will be on display at IBC, include:
-- Motorola is a world-class OEM and systems partner using Modulus encoding solutions and technology to supply complete end-to-end IPTV and Satellite solutions to the global video marketplace. -- The world's leading set top box manufacturers including ADB, Motorola, Sentivision, Thomson, UTStarcom, and Wegener are working with Modulus to ensure high quality integration with their products. -- AMD and Modulus have worked closely together to harness the power the industry leading Opteron processor family and to demonstrate real-time HD decoding technology as a high performance example of the capability the Opteron processors. -- Terayon partners with Modulus to provide best in class standards based multiplexing and stream processing solutions. -- LSI Logic is working with Modulus HD and SD encoders to demonstrate its latest video technologies. -- Chip manufacturers including Broadcom, Conexant, Sigma, STMicro, Texas Instruments, and Xilinx are working directly with Modulus in the development of MPEG-4 support. -- Microwave Radio Corporation is working with Modulus to develop a new line of microwave video transport systems, studio-to-transmitter links, electronic news gathering (ENG), international outside broadcast operations, inter-city relays, satellite backhauls, and regional networks. -- C-COR and Modulus are collaborating on solutions for IPTV services. -- Modulus CEO and Chairman Bob Wilson has been invited to participate as a panelist at the MPEG Industry Forum (MPEGIF) SuperSession at IBC. Entitled "The Video Ecosystem", Bob will lend his expertise to a roundtable discussion called "Next Generation Audio and Video -- Content Creation" The session is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. on September 12th at the IBC convention in Room O of the RAI Centre. -- Modulus is an early member of the AVC Alliance.
