Miami Radio Personality to Run for Mayor
COCONUT GROVE, Fla., Sept. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc. (NASDAQ:SBSA) announced today that Enrique Santos, co-host of the popular morning show El Vacilon de la Manana airing weekdays from 6:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Miami's WXDJ-FM ("El Zol 95"), has decided to run for the office of Mayor of the City of Miami.
Consistent with the rules and regulations of the Federal Communications Commission ("FCC"), Santos will not be heard on WXDJ-FM until after the election is concluded.
Santos, along with sidekick Joe Ferrero, combine comedy, satire and a host of kooky characters as regular staples of their on-air hijinks which have included prank calls to Cuban dictator Fidel Castro and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. Their radio show has consistently been ranked #1 among South Florida listeners ages 18-34.
By mutual agreement with SBS, Santos has elected to temporarily withdraw from the El Vacilon show in order to pursue his mayoral candidacy. Regardless of the outcome, Santos will rejoin the morning show immediately following the election.
