-Brings Two Week Total to Over $2 Million; Announces Plans for Additional News Coverage Focused on Resettled Survivors-

NEW YORK, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Granite Broadcasting Corporation (BULLETIN BOARD: GBTVK) announced today that its stations have raised over $2 million in total donations during the first two weeks of fundraising efforts for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Granite stations utilized live telethons, public service announcements, and local news coverage to inform members of the community about local relief efforts and fundraising drives.

The Company also announced that Granite's local news teams will be documenting the plight of those who have recently resettled in Granite's local communities as a result of being displaced by Katrina. In Peoria, Illinois, home of Granite's WEEK-TV for example, the local community has taken in more than 500 Katrina survivors.

W. Don Cornwell, Chief Executive Officer of Granite Broadcasting Corporation, said, "We are very proud of the tremendous generosity of our employees and the local communities we serve, especially when considering we operate in some of the nation's smaller markets. In addition to raising funds and supplies, residents in our markets have taken the extraordinary step of welcoming people displaced by the hurricane into their homes and communities. We are looking forward to telling their stories and broadcasting the kindness and generosity of their hosts to raise additional awareness of the resources needed to help those impacted by this Hurricane."

Efforts by Granite's Big-Three affiliated local stations included:

* Duluth, MN/Superior, WI: KJBR-TV and KDLH-TV conducted an eight-day television event raising almost $600,000 for the Northland Chapter of the American Red Cross.
