Detroit Branch NAACP Kicks Off Operation Love; Benefit Concert Will Raise Funds for Victims of Hurricane Katrina

DETROIT, Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The Detroit Branch NAACP along with faith based organizations, labor and community groups will sponsor "Operation Love" on September 18, 2005 at 5 p.m. at Fellowship Chapel located at 7707 West Outer Drive in Detroit. The concert will benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Detroit. Admission is $25 per person and all proceeds will be donated to the Detroit Branch NAACP Operation Love. Scheduled to appear are: Black Bottom Collective, Luther Badman Keith and his Blues Band, The Contours, Fellowship Chapel Mass Choir, New Prospect Baptist Church Choir and Levi Johnson Jr. "African Thumb Piano/Kalimba." Tickets for the benefit concert can be purchased at the Detroit Branch NAACP, Fellowship Chapel and Northwest Activities Center.

"We want to demonstrate some Detroit love for persons in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Detroit who have been displaced," says Rev. Wendell Anthony, Detroit Branch NAACP President. "We are inviting a number of Detroit artists to perform in this special benefit concert to raise money for Operation Love."

Over $100,000 has already been committed for Operation Love. Financial support has also been pledged from the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. In addition, to the benefit concert the Legal Aid and Defenders Association is working with Operation Love to provide legal advocacy and relocation assistance for evacuees in Michigan.
