Comcast Serves as Judicial Sponsor of 2005 Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's Annual Legislative Conference
PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation announced today that Comcast Corporation is serving as a Judicial Sponsor of the CBCF's 35th Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) set for September 21-24, 2005 in Washington, DC. The theme of this year's conference is Unity ... Power ... Progress.
The ALC offers the 43 African American Members of Congress an opportunity to discuss their work on legislative items and to engage attendees in a dialogue on policy issues that are of critical concern to their communities. The ALC is one of the leading African American conferences on policy issues. Over 20,000 people gather for the four-day conference, which presents more than 70 panel discussions on relevant issues important to African Americans and other communities of color. In addition, the ALC also hosts a town hall meeting, a prayer breakfast, an awards dinner, free health screenings, a job fair, and an array of other events.
"Comcast is proud to offer our continued support for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and sponsor this year's legislative conference," said Comcast Executive Vice President David L. Cohen. "We share the foundation's belief in leadership and community development, and through our support of the CBCF and other nonprofit partners, we seek to improve the many diverse communities we serve as programmers, employers, business partners, and corporate citizens."
"We are excited to once again partner with Comcast for this year's Annual Legislative Conference. Throughout the years, Comcast has shown a commitment to many of the issues that are of chief concern to the CBCF, including narrowing the digital divide. We look forward to working with Comcast to make this year's conference an outstanding success," said Dr. Don I. Tharpe, CBCF's President and CEO.
The CBCF was established in 1976 as a non-partisan, non-profit, public policy, research and educational institute. The CBCF educates future leaders and promotes collaboration among community and business leaders, minority focused organization leaders and organized labor to effect positive and sustainable change in the African American community.
