NEWSWEEK: Pentagon Plan Calls for Scale Down of U.S. Troops in Iraq to 80,000 by Mid-2006; Down to 60,000 by End of That Year, Officials Say
The Pentagon has developed a detailed plan in recent months to scale down the U-S troop presence in Iraq to about 80-thousand by mid-2006 and down to 40-thousand to 60-thousand troops by the end of that year. This is according to two Pentagon officials involved in the planning who asked not to be identified because of the sensitive nature of their work. Their account squares with a British memo leaked in mid-July, report Senior Editor Michael Hirsh and National Security Correspondent John Barry in the current issue of Newsweek.

Majority of British Adults Agree Great Britain Will Be More of a Security Risk When It Hosts the 2012 Olympic Games
With the announcement a few weeks ago that London will host the 2012 Olympic Games, majorities of adults in Great Britain say they are either extremely satisfied or satisfied with the decision to award the Olympic Bid to London, agree that the British economy will be boosted by the events and agree that London will do a great job of hosting the games. However, many recognize the security issues that the games present as 55 percent of adults agree that Great Britain will be more of a security risk when it hosts the games. These are some of the results of a nationwide Harris Poll of adults surveyed online in Great Britain.
