Krauss, Blue Highway, Vincent and Lawson Lead IBMA Nominations
NASHVILLE, Tenn., Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- The list of nominees has been announced for the 16th Annual International Bluegrass Music Awards, to be hosted by bluegrass favorites Alison Krauss and Ricky Skaggs and scheduled for October 27th at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn. Artists favored with the most nominations include Alison Krauss & Union Station, Blue Highway, Rhonda Vincent & The Rage and Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver.
Alison Krauss & Union Station cap off an incredible year by receiving an impressive 14 nominations including Entertainer of the Year, Instrumental Group, Vocal Group, Song of the Year, Album, Gospel Recorded Performance, Female Vocalist for Alison, Male Vocalist for Dan Tyminski and individual instrumental award nods for band members Jerry Douglas (Dobro), Barry Bales (bass) and Ron Block (banjo). Alison and Dan are also featured on the Larry Sparks album 40, nominated for Album of the Year and Recorded Event of the Year. She also receives a nod for being a part of the Recorded Event nominated album Moody Bluegrass.
Five-time Female Vocalist of the Year Rhonda Vincent and her band The Rage come in with eight nominations including Entertainer, Vocal Group, Female Vocalist and an individual nod for The Rage's Hunter Berry on fiddle. Rhonda is also a featured artist on the Recorded Event and Album of the Year nominated 40 by Larry Sparks which will compete for the same two awards with her banjo player, Kenny Ingram's nominations for his role on Tribute to Jimmy Martin: "The King of Bluegrass."
Picking up seven nominations, Doyle Lawson and his band Quicksilver are recognized for Entertainer, Vocal Group, Album and Gospel Recorded Performance, along with an individual instrumental nomination for Lawson on mandolin. They'll compete with themselves among others with two nominations in the Song of the Year category for "Heartbreak Number Nine" written by band members Barry Scott and Jamie Daley and "You Gotta Dig A Little Deeper," written by Carl H. Caldwell.
Blue Highway also harvests seven nominations including Vocal Group, Instrumental Group, and an Album of the Year and Recorded Event nod for their participation on Larry Sparks' 40. Band members Rob Ickes (Dobro) and Tim Stafford (Guitar) are nominated in their respective Instrumental Award categories and Tim's album Endless Line is a finalist for Instrumental Album.
Several other groups received five or more nominations: The Del McCoury Band, Larry Sparks, Mountain Heart, Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder and Paul Williams.
