William J. Bresnan and Douglas V. Holloway to Serve As Honorary Co-Chairs for 19th Annual NAMIC Conference
NEW YORK, Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- The Annual NAMIC (National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications) Conference, the industry's single most important event specifically focused on the connection between multi-ethnic diversity and cable's bottom line, is proud to announce William J. Bresnan and Douglas V. Holloway as Honorary Co-chairs.
Throughout his career, Mr. Bresnan has played a leadership role in the cable television industry. He began his cable career in 1958 when, at the age of 25, he designed and built his first cable system in Rochester, MN. When that system was acquired by Jack Kent Cooke, Inc. in 1965, Mr. Bresnan joined the Cooke executive team. After a series of transactions, the Cooke holdings were merged with Teleprompter Corporation, then the largest cable company in the U.S. Mr. Bresnan served as President of Teleprompter's Cable Television Division from 1974 to 1981. In 1981, Westinghouse Electric purchased Teleprompter, and Mr. Bresnan was named Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the new company, Group W Cable, Inc. He left Group W Cable and founded Bresnan Communications in 1984. During the next 14 years, the company grew quickly, making acquisitions in the United States as well as abroad in Chile and Poland; at one point, serving more than one million customers worldwide. Today, the company serves nearly 300,000 subscribers in Colorado, Montana, Wyoming and Utah. The recipient of numerous awards, Mr. Bresnan has been honored with the Walter Kaitz Foundation's Partnership in Diversity Award. In May of 2000, he received the Stanley B. Thomas Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association of Minorities in Communications.
"It's my pleasure to take on the role of Honorary Co-Chair for so important an event as NAMIC's Annual Conference," said Bill Bresnan. "This is an organization which empowers the telecommunications industry to do well by doing good. NAMIC's dedication to increasing the role minorities play in our business not only has helped to enhance our many companies but more importantly has created significant opportunities for skilled and talented workers who might otherwise not have had a chance to show their worth."
Douglas Holloway is President of Cable Investments for NBC Universal Cable, oversees NBC Universal's joint cable ventures, which include A&E Networks Value Vision, NBC Weather Plus and National Geographic International. He is also responsible for seeking new cable investments and identifying strategic initiatives for the company. Prior to NBC Universal Cable, Holloway held the position of President, Network Distribution and Affiliate Relations for Universal Television where he oversaw distribution, affiliate marketing and affiliate relations for the company's cable portfolio. Before joining USA Network in 1983, Holloway was National Accounts Manager for Time Inc., "TV Cable Week" Magazine. He was also employed as CBS Cable's Regional Affiliate Sales Representative, Strategic Planning Analyst for the CBS Television Network and Assistant Product Manager for General Foods.
"I'm thrilled to have been chosen as one of the honorary co-chairs for this significant year in NAMIC's history," said Holloway. "As one of the founding members of NAMIC and having witnessed the impact and growth of diversity in the industry, I am proud of the accomplishments and recognition the organization has achieved and look forward to the challenges ahead.
Today's bottom line depends on a deeper understanding of multi-cultural and multi-ethnic market drivers as they continue to become an undeniable economic force. Whether involved in Marketing, Sales, Human Resources, Programming, Operations, New Business Development or New Media, profits can be made or lost with one flick of the clicker that people of color control. The 19th Annual NAMIC Conference will go beyond the usual shades of gray that have dominated the communications industry and uncover the impact of multi-ethnic consumers on the future or our business.
