The DVDs will arrive in stores nationwide July 26, with 50 cents of each DVD's purchase price donated to the USO. Each DVD also will carry a "Support Our Troops" sticker on the package, and copies of each movie will be distributed to the USO's 121 centers worldwide.
Fox is commemorating World War II by collectively releasing the finest war classics in its arsenal, including several Oscar(R) winners and nominees, such as "The Thin Red Line," "The Longest Day," "Twelve O'Clock High," and the compelling biopic "Patton," celebrating the 35th anniversary of its original release. The films bring together mega stars Gregory Peck, John Wayne, Henry Fonda, George C. Scott, Richard Burton, Sean Connery and George Clooney in powerful story lines that weave patriotic tales of bravery and treachery in unforgettable battles. Fox also will conduct a "Direct To Sailor" film festival with these titles via the U.S. Navy's closed-circuit network that feeds to all U.S. Navy ships deployed around the world.
"The USO is proud to partner with Fox Home Entertainment on a promotion that will inspire and entertain the troops and audiences globally, as well as help us continue our programs and services for men and women in uniform," said USO president and CEO Edward A. Powell.
Steven Feldstein, Fox Home Entertainment's senior vice president of Corporate and Marketing Communications, said, "The USO is a symbol of America's commitment to the men and women of our armed forces, and we are proud to support our troops with a program that will benefit them at home and abroad."
