Legendary Country Music Trio Joins Celebration With July 23 Performance
SALT LAKE CITY, July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- As the weather heats up, there's no better place than Deer Valley and the shade of the Wasatch mountains for an outdoor concert, especially if a legendary country trio is performing with the Utah Symphony. On July 23, music lovers will prepare for Pioneer Day by spreading out on the lawn at the Deer Valley Outdoor Amphitheater for a picnic and a starry evening filled with the greatest hits of Larry Gatlin and The Gatlin Brothers. Keith Lockhart and the Utah Symphony will open the concert with the best music from classic Cowboy films. The performance begins at 7:30 pm.
Larry Gatlin, along with his brothers Steve and Rudy, hold an important place in country music history with 15 chart-toppers including number one smash hits "All The Gold In California" and "I Just Wish You Were Someone I Love." Larry Gatlin, who was named Top Male Vocalist at the 1979 ACM awards, was well-known as a songwriter before gaining fame as a solo artist, composing songs that were later recorded by the likes of Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Barbara Streisand, Tom Jones, and even Elvis Presley. The Deer Valley audience can look forward to the pure harmony of the Gatlins' as they perform the songs that highlight the very best of their 40 years of music.
Keith Lockhart and the Utah Symphony will get things started with a collection of music from cowboy films including John Williams' soundtrack from the John Wayne classic The Cowboys.
In addition to celebrating the Days of '47, the July 23 concert signals the beginning of the 2005 Deer Valley Music Festival, featuring four weeks of performances by talented artists from around the world. The festival will keep the mountains ringing this summer with music as diverse as Classical, Pops, Chamber Music, Opera and more. The Utah Symphony will be joined by world-class artists throughout the festival for performances including Air Supply, Broadway and Hollywood Favorites, The Fireworks Ensemble, Colin Currie and more. In addition, the Utah Opera will offer a fully-staged production of the Gilbert & Sullivan comic opera The Mikado starring Utah favorites George Dyer and Lisa Vroman. The festival wraps up in traditional style on August 20 with a cannon-filled performance of the 1812 Overture.
