LOS ANGELES, July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- MAN, MOMENT, MACHINE is a new series that explores action stories of human drama and incredible invention -- new and history-making technologies and the individuals who developed or applied them at a critical moment to create milestone events. It is the convergence of these elements -- man, moment, machine, that drives history.
Each one-hour episode features fascinating accounts of action, adventure and creative invention -- told in a highly compelling style with rare archival footage, first person interviews, expert perspective, vivid re-enactments, and state-of-the art computer imagery, to bring some of history's most remarkable stories to life.
Hosted by Hunter Ellis (host of The History Channel series TACTICAL TO PRACTICAL) MAN, MOMENT, MACHINE is a fast-paced chronicle of the talented men, the amazing machines, and the seminal events that have earned a place on the pages of history. Some of the compelling topics include Aviator Jimmy Doolittle and the B-25 Bomber that changed the course of World War II and Francis Gary Powers and the U2 Spy Plan shot down over Russia.
MAN, MOMENT, MACHINE will air on The History Channel on Tuesdays at 10pm ET/PT, starting on Tuesday, August 9th at 10pm ET/PT. A special sneak preview of the series airs Sunday, August 7th at 11pm ET/PT.
Upcoming episodes include:
MAN, MOMENT, MACHINE: THE GREAT SUB RESCUE (PREMIERE EPISODE on Tuesday, August 9th at 10:00pm ET/PT)
The year is 1939 and submarine duty is dubbed the "Coffin Service" because hundreds of crewmembers have died slow, painful deaths while trapped in submarines lying at the bottom of the ocean. This time, they have hope.
MAN: CHARLES "SWEDE" MOMSEN MOMENT: FIRST RESCUE FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA MACHINE: McCANN RESCUE CHAMBER
Trapped submariners destined to die 243 feet below the surface of the Atlantic have one chance to live: a never-been-tried rescue chamber developed by renegade Naval officer Charles "Swede" Momsen. For 24 hours, the men of the Squalus struggle with a dwindling supply of oxygen while would-be rescuers search for them. When the Squalus is finally located at the bottom of the sea, a courageous diver attaches a cable that could become a lifeline. On the surface, Charles Momsen and his rescue chamber prepare to make history.
MAN, MOMENT, MACHINE: DOOLITTLE'S DARING RAID (Airing on Tuesday, August 16th at 10:00pm ET/PT)
MAN: JIMMY DOOLITTLE MOMENT: FIRST AIR ATTACK OVER JAPAN MACHINE: MITCHELL B-25 TWIN ENGINE BOMBER
The year is 1942 and America tastes its first retribution for Pearl Harbor, as daredevil flying Ace Jimmy Doolittle leads a squadron of specially modified B-25's on a mission designed to strike fear in the heart of the enemy -- a mid-day bombing raid on Tokyo. But when a Japanese patrol boat spots the task force, Doolittle decides he can't wait for the carrier to get close enough to ensure the bombers a round trip. Each crewmember takes off, knowing there won't be enough fuel to return. And any or all of them could die.
MAN, MOMENT, MACHINE: STORMIN NORMAN AND THE ABRAMS TANK (Airing on Tuesday, August 23rd at 10:00pm ET/PT)
MAN: GENERAL "STORMIN" NORMAN SCHWARZKOPF MOMENT: OPERATION DESERT SABRE DESTROYS HUSSEIN'S REPUBLICAN GUARD MACHINE: THE ABRAMS M-1 BATTLE TANK
The year is 1991 and Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf faces an unpredictable and dangerous enemy in Saddam Hussein. His weapon of choice -- the mighty Abrams M1A1 main battle tank -- will face its first test in combat. This is a land war fought on rough desert terrain. The M1A1, boasts 120 mm guns, new armor design, night vision systems, and onboard nuclear, chemical and biological protection systems. The sleek M1A1 and Schwarzkopf's battle strategies will prove decisive. But not before tank and General are both tested to the limit. In just 100 hours of battle, Schwarzkopf drives the Iraqis from Kuwait and shatters Saddam's army. The 7th Corps, led by M1A1 tanks, destroy an estimated 1300 Iraqi tanks. Only 18 M1A1's are lost.
Schwarzkopf's strategy for a clean, decisive win pays off. The M1A1 is key in delivering a swift victory and becomes the principal battle tank of the US Military.
