BigBand Networks Provides Infrastructure for Adelphia VoIP Launch
Fifth largest cable operator utilizes BigBand Cuda CMTS and BigBand FastFlow(R) broadband provisioning manager
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., July 18 /PRNewswire/ -- BigBand Networks, Inc., a leading provider of network platforms for video, voice and data services, today announced that its hardware and software infrastructure is being tested by Adelphia Communications Corporation for VoIP (voice over IP) service launches. The operator is using the BigBand Cuda(R) CMTS (cable modem termination system) to route and process signals, and BigBand FastFlow(R) broadband provisioning manager to establish and manage subscriber voice accounts.

A DOCSIS 2.0 qualified platform, the BigBand Cuda CMTS is designed to maximize reliability of delivering VoIP and other real-time content through features like a passive backplane that automatically switches to redundant resources when required and robust RF signaling for delivery in multiple plant conditions. BigBand FastFlow is designed to detect the presence and configuration of subscriber devices, including media terminal adapters used to access VoIP, and automatically provide required configuration data within operator information systems, limiting the potential for errors through manual data entry.
