This Special Airing Marks the Recent Conviction in the Infamous Civil Rights Murder Case Dramatized in the Film
NEW YORK, June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- WHAT: Following the conviction of 80-year-old Edgar Ray Killen for the 1964 murder of three civil rights workers, SHOWTIME is airing a special encore presentation of MISSISSIPPI BURNING. Directed by Alan Parker, the film is closely based on the actual events that led to the disappearance of the three activists and the FBI investigation that unveiled Klan activity in the highest echelons of law enforcement and government in Mississippi.
WHO: The film stars Gene Hackman, who was nominated for an Oscar(R) for his role as FBI Agent Anderson; Willem Defoe as Agent Ward; and Frances McDormand, who also received an Oscar(R) nomination for her role as Mrs. Pell.
