Out at CHS Presents, 'The Celluloid Closet: LGBT in Film'

Discussion Takes Place Thursday Evening

WHAT: A lively discussion on the role of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community in film (both in front of and behind the camera), preceded by a cocktail reception. WHO: Kim Peirce, writer and director of the Academy Award(R)-winning film Boys Don't Cry and Ronald Gregg, programming director for the Committee on Cinema and Media Studies at the University of Chicago. Sun-Times columnist Bill Zwecker will not participate in the discussion, as had been indicated previously. WHEN: Thursday, June 23. Reception from 5:30-6:30 p.m.; discussion from 6:30-8:00 p.m. WHERE: Reception at The Second City, 1616 North Wells Street; discussion at Loews Piper's Alley Theater, 1608 North Wells Street. General admission is $10; $5 for students and CHS Members.

The Chicago Historical Society, a major museum and research center for Chicago and American history, is located on Clark Street at North Avenue, and can be reached by CTA buses 11, 22, 36, 72, 151 and 156. Public parking is conveniently located one block north of CHS at Clark and LaSalle Streets (enter on Stockton Drive). The museum is open Mondays through Wednesdays from noon to 8:00 p.m., Thursdays through Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 5:00 p.m. Suggested admission is $5 for adults; $3 for seniors and students (ages 13-22) with valid school IDs; $1 for children (ages 6-12); free for members and children under 6.
