Cable Industry's First PowerKEY(R)-Compatible Media Center Debuts in Turlock, Calif.
KIRKLAND, Wash., June 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Digeo today announced initial deployment of MoxiTM PowerKEY to Charter Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: CHTR) customers in Turlock, Calif. This marks the first time an MSO has offered a cable media center to its customers on a Scientific-Atlanta (NYSE: SFA) network. With delivery of Moxi PowerKEY, Digeo has nearly doubled its addressable subscriber market to encompass virtually 100 percent of the cable market in North America.
"Moxi has gained considerable traction in the industry in the last year, largely because the Moxi user interface is widely regarded as the slickest and easiest in the business," said Richard Doherty, research director for The Envisioneering Group. "Moxi PowerKEY opens up a huge market for Digeo, while at the same time giving cable operators the means to draw premium digital customers with an easy, superior user navigation experience, regardless of which network is in use."
"We're pleased to be able to offer the Moxi Media Center to our Scientific-Atlanta customers," said Ed Merrill, Charter's Vice-President and General Manager for Northern and Central California. "The functionality and ease of use of Moxi have proven extremely popular in the markets where it's been deployed. And it will prove to be equally popular with our Turlock customers."
The Moxi Media Center is a cable media center with an Emmy(R) award- winning user interface that is generating higher revenues and reducing customer churn. It integrates high-definition television with a dual-tuner digital video recorder, enabling the user to watch one channel while recording another. Subscribers can quickly search for and select On Demand video content and access instant weather, sports and news via an interactive information ticker. Moxi PowerKEY also enables cable operators to offer subscribers other revenue-generating services including a wide selection of games, as well as display and management of digital photos.
"With Moxi, cable operators can now provide the same media center experience on both their Scientific-Atlanta and Motorola networks, enabling a unified service across their national footprint," said Bert Kolde, chief operating officer of Digeo. "By offering Moxi on both networks, cable operators can also achieve operational, support and marketing economies of scale."
More than 130,000 Moxi Media Centers have been deployed nationwide by Charter, Adelphia, BendBroadband, NewWave Communications and Sunflower Broadband.
