June 14th Pause for the Pledge of Allegiance at Fort McHenry to Feature Patriotic Songs, Fly-over and Fireworks

BALTIMORE, June 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The 26th Annual Pause for the Pledge of Allegiance program will be held on Tuesday, June 14 at the Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine, 2400 E. Fort Ave., in Baltimore.

Ceremonies will start at 6:30 p.m. and the Pledge of Allegiance will be recited at 7 p.m. The program will include a series of patriotic songs, the placing of a memorial wreath to commemorate those who fought and died in the armed forces, a Baltimore City fireboat display and a fly-over by a squadron of A-10 Thunderbolt jets. It concludes with a spectacular fireworks display at 9 p.m.

The objective of the program is to instill patriotism and pay tribute to those who serve in the armed forces. It is run by the National Flag Day Foundation, which was chartered Dec. 2, 1982, as an educational foundation to provide opportunities for all citizens to observe and participate in the national Pause for the Pledge of Allegiance each year.

"The Pause for the Pledge is opportunity to reflect on what it means to be an American and serve in harm's way for our country," said Henry A. Rosenberg, Jr., chairman of the board the National Flag Day Foundation. "There is no more poignant moment than now -- as we do battle with international terrorists -- to honor the men and women who defend our freedom."

The public is invited to attend the free program and is urged to bring a picnic meal, along with chairs and blankets. Before the program starts, visitors can tour the grounds of Fort McHenry.
