Adam Bhala Lough to Adapt 'Angry Black White Boy'

NEW YORK, June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Filmmaker Adam Bhala Lough has partnered with Venture Forward Productions to develop the screenplay adaptation for the new, incendiary novel by Adam Mansbach, "Angry Black White Boy."

Set primarily in New York City, the story follows the meteoric rise to national prominence of the young white founder of the Race Traitor Project, an organization that exposes the evils and invisibility of whiteness. The satire is laced with historical references to the segregation of baseball in the 1880's and the present day politicalization of black culture.

"We immediately connected and understood this as a story that deals with race in all of its seriousness, absurdity, and nuance," said book author Mansbach, of the filmmaker. "This movie will have characters challenging their race and identity. And it will be goddamn hilarious," added Lough.

Venture Forward principal Robert Bethge and Lough first collaborated on the feature film "Bomb the System," the cinematic poem to graffiti that was nominated for a 2003 Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature. That year, Lough was awarded Best Director at HBO's Urbanworld Film Festival, and was listed on the Filmmaker Magazine list of The Top 25 Independent Filmmakers to Watch. He is represented by Bart Walker at CAA in New York.
