2005 Online Journalism Awards Open for Entries
BETHESDA, Md., June 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The sixth annual Online Journalism Awards (OJAs) competition, the only contest dedicated exclusively to recognizing excellence in digital journalism is now accepting entries through July 20, 2005.
The competition is presented through a partnership between the Online News Association (ONA) and the USC Annenberg School for Communication. Winners will be announced at the Online Journalism Awards Banquet during the sixth national conference of the Online News Association, which will be held at the Hilton New York, October 28th and 29th in New York City.
The competition is for work published between July 1, 2004 and June 30, 2005. The contest is open to all English-language Web sites around the world. The judges will review entries in the following categories: general excellence in online journalism; breaking news; specialty journalism; enterprise journalism; service journalism; online commentary; outstanding use of multiple media; student journalism; and student Web site. In response to the growth and development of online news since the award's inception in 2000, the Online News Association this year adopted several changes in the competition, including the addition of new size divisions for General Excellence in Online Journalism and Online Commentary. The USC Annenberg School is home to two other major journalism awards. The Selden Ring Award for Investigative Reporting recognizes the year's best investigative reporting in print journalism with a $35,000 prize, the highest in journalism. The USC Annenberg Walter Cronkite Awards for Outstanding Television Political Journalism are presented biannually to television stations, reporters, and networks for political reporting in election years.

The Online News Association is an association composed largely of professional online journalists. The Association has several hundred professional members, that is, members whose principal livelihood involves gathering or producing news for digital presentation. The membership includes news writers, producers, designers, editors, photographers and others who produce news for the Internet or other digital delivery systems, as well as academic members and others interested in the development of online journalism.
