Zipcar and the Brooklyn International Film Festival Bring Back 'The Drive-In' Movie Experience

Zipcar and the Brooklyn International Film Festival Bring Back 'The Drive-In' Movie Experience

NEW YORK, May 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Too young to remember when cruising to the drive-in was the most fun, exciting and romantic way to catch a flick? Now, fans of both wheels and reels can come together for a rare opportunity to enjoy the classic drive-in movie experience, right in the heart of Brooklyn. Zipcar, the country's largest car-sharing company, is teaming with the Brooklyn International Film Festival for two free drive-in events, June 6 and 7 at 9 PM at the parking lot of the Brooklyn Museum. Zipcar will provide the vehicles, each tuned to live broadcasts of the films' sound.

The free drive-ins are part of this year's Festival (June 3 -- 12), themed "Opinion_8" and featuring sharp, analytical and original projects with an opinionated twist. At the drive-in events, attendees can also formulate their own opinion on car-sharing and which cars are the coolest, as they pick their favorite from rows and rows of Zipcars, including cool makes and models like convertible Mini's, BMW 325's, and Toyota Prius hybrids. Though spaces in the Zipcar vehicles are limited to first-come, first-serve seating, there will be parking space available for moviegoers who want to attend with their own vehicle.

The drive-in film programs provide a sample of the Opinion_8 theme, including short narrative, animation, and experimental films. In true drive-in tradition, a variety of snacks and beverages by Two Boots restaurant, Red Bull and Budweiser beer will be but a honk away.

"We are thrilled to partner with Zipcar for the 4th consecutive year," said Marco Ursino, BiFF Director. "The drive-in events are a great way to connect with audiences we don't normally reach and an opportunity to give them a taste of our program. Zipcar, with its urban outreach, is instrumental in helping us to achieve just that."

Zipcar now has more than 36,000 members and more than 500 vehicles throughout metro New York City, Washington DC, and Boston. Zipcar provides self-service access to cars by the hour or day, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Rates start at $8.50 per hour and $59 per day. Gas, parking, insurance and XM Satellite Radio are included in all reservations.
