Cablevision's Optimum Voice(R) Unlimited Calling Area Expands to Include Puerto Rico
Expanded Unlimited Calling Area is the Latest Value Enhancement to Voice Service That is Attracting More Than 1,000 New Customers Per Day on Average
BETHPAGE, N.Y., May 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cablevision Systems Corporation (NYSE:CVC) today announced the latest value enhancement to its Optimum Voice digital voice-over-cable (VoIP) service -- the addition of Puerto Rico to an unlimited calling area that already includes the U.S. and Canada.
"The addition of Puerto Rico to our flat-rate unlimited calling area makes the market's best value in voice even more valuable," said Joe Varello, Cablevision's vice president of digital voice product management. "We believe this expanded unlimited calling area, in addition to extremely competitive rates for international calls and other key features, will broaden the appeal of a voice service that is already enjoying breakaway consumer acceptance across the New York metropolitan area and adding more than 1,000 new customers every day on average."
Optimum Voice is a voice service available exclusively to Optimum Online high-speed Internet customers for a flat monthly fee of $34.95. In addition to unlimited calling throughout the U.S., Canada and now Puerto Rico, Optimum Voice also includes seven custom calling features at no additional cost: enhanced voicemail, call waiting, caller ID, caller ID blocking (*67), call return (*69), three-way calling and call forwarding, in addition to directory assistance (411).
The service also includes "My Optimum Voice," an innovative Web portal that allows customers to easily forward calls, listen to voicemail messages from any computer with Internet access, review calling records and manage other account features. Cablevision also offers a whole-house wiring option as part of the free installation process, which delivers Optimum Voice dial tone to all existing wall jacks within the home.
"Optimum Voice is the most highly-penetrated VoIP service in the nation," Varello added. "And our success is a result of the highly-reliable and feature-rich experience we can offer our customers, a commitment we have continued to extend through new value enhancements like the addition of our innovative Web portal and this expansion of our unlimited calling area."
With more than 272,000 customers at the end of 2004, Optimum Voice provides fully functioning enhanced-911 service to every customer and is CALEA compliant. Optimum Voice calls are carried over Cablevision's own world class network, not the public Internet, and the voice packets are prioritized to ensure a quality of service that cannot be matched by Internet phone services.
