America's Test Kitchen Still #1 TV Show On Public Broadcasting

America's Test Kitchen Still #1 TV Show On Public Broadcasting

BROOKLINE, Mass., May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- With May "Sweeps" firmly underway, the network and cable television shows will be jockeying to announce their successful ratings. Higher ratings = more ad dollars.

Alas, America's Test Kitchen, now in its 5th season, has no sweeps news to report. The show is broadcast advertising free on public broadcasting. But while new cooking shows continue to clog both network and public airwaves, America's Test Kitchen, is still the most popular cooking show on public television.

In April 2005 America's Test Kitchen was aired in 258 markets. According to Tracmedia's Overnight Ratings, which tracks ratings in the top 78 markets, America's Test Kitchen's viewership exceeded 4.9 million in April, representing 25% more monthly viewers than the next most-watched cooking show on public television. And America's Test Kitchen's viewership continues to increase year over year.

This season's America's Test Kitchen features the totally renovated, redesigned, and expanded 2,500-square-foot test kitchen outside of Boston, Massachusetts. Each of the 26 season episodes is filmed in the actual working test kitchen of Cook's Illustrated magazine. Planning for America's Test Kitchen is a year-round event involving the test kitchen, editors and production teams. The show is shot for one month each spring. The 6th season of America's Test Kitchen is in production now. It will begin airing in January 2006.
