Modulus Video MPEG-4 AVC Systems Selected by MRC for New Broadcast Microwave Systems
Integrated Systems Will Provide High Quality, Low Bandwidth Video Encoding Solution for News, Live Events and Other Remote Video Delivery Applications
SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Modulus Video, Inc. today announced that its MPEG-4 AVC encoding and decoding systems have been selected by Microwave Radio Corporation (MRC), the world's leading microwave system provider, for integration in a new line of microwave video transport systems. The new systems will support a wide range of applications facing shrinking microwave bandwidth and increasing costs, including studio-to-transmitter links (STLs), electronic news gathering (ENG), international outside broadcast operations, inter-city relays, satellite backhauls, and regional networks.
"MRC's commitment to providing the most effective microwave video transport solutions means that we are constantly evaluating technologies and partners that can improve broadcast operations," said Tony Finizio, CEO of MRC. "Modulus Video's complete focus on MPEG-4 AVC has yielded a best-in-class encoding solution that will provide MRC customers with clear advantages in bandwidth savings while ensuring video quality that meets or exceeds expectations."
Under the agreement, MRC will offer the Modulus ME1000 encoder and MD1000 decoder to the broadcast microwave market. Developers from the two companies will work together to integrate the products into complete systems. The companies will present a live demonstration of system solutions at the National Association of Broadcasters convention, April 18-21 in Las Vegas, at the MRC Booth C3007.
"We are very pleased that MRC, the most trusted name in microwave transport applications, has selected Modulus as its partner for delivering its next generation of systems," said Bob Wilson, CEO and chairman of Modulus Video. "Increasing pressure on available spectrum presents broadcasters with an increasing challenge. Working together, MRC and Modulus are bringing the best engineering minds in the business to bear on the challenge. MPEG-4 AVC is well suited to these applications, delivering video quality that can be superior to MPEG-2 in less than half of the bandwidth."
