Israeli Musical Youth Group 'Dor Sheni' to Perform at Benaroya Hall
SEATTLE, April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle today announced that "Dor Sheni (the Second Generation)," a musical youth group, will perform a concert at Benaroya Hall on the evening of Thursday, April 14, 2005. The group is from the town of Kiryat Malachi, the Federation's partnership community in Israel, and the youths themselves (ages 15-19) come from families from Morocco, Tunisia and other Mediterranean countries who immigrated to Israel in the 1950s, and more recently from Ethiopia.
"Each Dor Sheni performer has their own story to tell about the miracle of having arrived in the Promised Land," said Barry Goren, president and CEO of the Jewish Federation. "Among Israeli youth, they have become a symbol of integration and assimilation, woven in the fabric of a new society born out of the melting pot. They are proud representatives of Modern Israeli Youth, representing Kiryat Malachi during their tour of the west coast of the U.S."
The troupe has performed all over Israel at state events such as "50 Years of Independence" for Israel, the Entebbe Mission's 25th anniversary and the One Year Commemoration to Yitzhak Rabin. Dor Sheni has had television appearances on such successful programs as "Zehu Ze" (an Israeli hit sitcom), as well as being featured in an eight-episode television documentary on the success of the group.
