Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame Musician, Isaac Hayes, Unveils New Cookbook of Kidney-Friendly Recipes for People With Chronic Kidney Disease CLEVELAND, Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Who: The legendary Oscar(R) and Grammy(R) award winning Isaac Hayes, also known as Jerome "Chef" McElroy on Comedy Central's animated hit series "South Park" Local nephrologist, Edmond Ricanati, M.D., Professor of Medicine, MetroHealth Medical Center, Cleveland OH Local renal dietitian, Pamela Kent, MS, RD, Ohio Renal Care What: Following the death of close friend and fellow legend, Barry White, due to kidney failure, celebrity chef Isaac Hayes has taken on a new initiative to help people with chronic kidney disease revive their passion for food. Because diet is a key part of managing kidney disease and an associated condition known as hyperphosphatemia (high blood phosphorus levels), Hayes will conduct a low phosphorus cooking demonstration for patients and their families. Hayes will introduce recipes from the new Kidney Friendly Comfort Foods: A Collection of Recipes for Eating Well with Chronic Kidney Disease, a cookbook filled with delicious and healthy recipes that put a low-phosphorus spin on some old favorites.
