Convergia Selects Global Crossing for Pan-American, Converged IP Network Solution * New three-year contract is worth $3.8 million with additional growth potential. * Leading Pan-American telecommunications provider to utilize Global Crossing IP VPN Service(TM) in 13 cities as well as Global Crossing co-location with Ethernet connectivity and IP Transit services. * New services will allow Convergia to provide customers a converged solution for voice, video and data transmission. MIAMI, Jan. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Global Crossing (NASDAQ:GLBC) today announced an agreement to provide telecommunications carrier Convergia with IP VPN, co-location and IP Transit services. Convergia will utilize these services for the immediate deployment of its IP telephony and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) strategy to customers primarily located in Spain, North and Latin America. Convergia also plans to utilize Global Crossing services to provide customers with a converged solution for voice, video and data transmission in the second phase of Convergia's IP rollout. Signed in November, the new $3.8 million contract will allow Convergia to utilize Global Crossing's premier global IP-based network to expand its international reach to more than 575 cities in 50 countries. The deal, which builds on an existing three-year relationship between the companies, is the result of a competitive review process through which Convergia selected Global Crossing to provide a converged Pan-American data network. Global Crossing was chosen because it was the only provider to offer Ethernet connectivity to a fully meshed, MPLS-based IP VPN network with the global reach Convergia required, and because Global Crossing was able to guarantee 100 percent availability, crucial to Convergia's business. In addition, Convergia cited its customer experience with Global Crossing as being another important factor; the company already utilizes Global Crossing Private Lines, IP and Carrier Termination voice services. "Global Crossing's MPLS-based IP VPN offering, Ethernet connections, SLAs and reach to key cities are important to us," commented To Anh Tran, Convergia's vice president of global operations. "We are confident that we will provide the very best quality and service available to all our customers." Global Crossing's IP VPN provides one of the most versatile IP VPN solutions currently in place, with an outstanding performance record, which is guaranteed by Global Crossing's recently enhanced 100-percent availability Service Level Agreement. Available today in more than 575 cities and 50 countries, Global Crossing IP VPN service provides true global reach, scalable connectivity, multiple access and flexible billing options, and supports convergence of corporate data, VoIP, IP Video and Internet access -- all over one connection. The new services will connect Convergia's operations in the Miami NAP of the Americas, Madrid, Mexico City, Panama City, Caracas, Santiago, Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Rio, Lima, Guadalajara, Monterrey and New York City. "Global Crossing is committed to delivering efficient, scalable, leading-quality IP services to its customers while supporting their transition to a converged environment around the globe," commented Dale Miller, vice president of carrier services for Latin America. "We are delighted to be serving leading carriers such as Convergia in providing the network necessary to fulfill their IP strategy." Global Crossing recently announced enhancements to its SLAs to further benefit the carrier and enterprise market segments. By offering such stringent guarantees on a global basis, Global Crossing is supporting its customers' transition to a converged environment. Businesses around the world are deploying real-time applications such as supply chain replenishment, customer relations management, and multi-media collaboration, which require high-performance networks with high packet delivery and very low jitter to avoid distortion leading to "popping" or "cracking" sounds on VoIP telephone calls or uneven, jerky movements on IP videoconferences. Global Crossing's unique converged IP data networking solutions make it the ideal partner for facilities-based telecommunications carriers. By leveraging Global Crossing's services in previously un-reached regions, these carriers gain the ability to serve their end customers with their own services around the globe. Global Crossing IP VPN Service is supported by a global managed capability, providing full service lifecycle support including 24-hour customer service, engineering and design, equipment procurement, installation and maintenance, and network monitoring. Also increasing the value of Global Crossing's MPLS-based IP VPN Service is network supported site-based remote access for IP VPN. Dispersed remote users and centralized small office users alike can connect to the VPN via a secure IPSec "tunnel" connection over any access method, such as cable or DSL. Authentication for remote access is performed in the Global Crossing network rather than through costly on-site equipment. IP VPN is the multi-service platform over which Global Crossing is delivering converged IP services.
