OTTAWA, June 28, 2016 /CNW/ - CBC/Radio-Canada is putting the national public broadcaster at the heart of Canada's 150(th) anniversary celebrations, helping inspire our nation to define itself for the next century.
"2017 will be an important milestone in the history of our country: a time for Canadians to connect and to share stories about who we are and where we are headed as a nation," said Hubert T. Lacroix, President and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada. "The public broadcaster will provide the public space where Canadians can share their stories, ideas and perspectives, and where they can engage with one another from coast to coast to coast."
CBC/Radio-Canada is the largest Canadian online media destination, reaching millions of Canadians every month through our websites, suite of apps and extensive network of social channels. The public broadcaster invites Canadians to join us in creating a national collection of content that will be shared on our digital platforms and social channels throughout 2017.

2017 PARTNERS & EVENTS
CBC/Radio-Canada is deepening its connections with Canadian communities, working with partners to develop a series of dynamic public events across the country:
-- CBC/Radio-Canada is the Official Broadcast Partner of SESQUI, a
Signature Initiative of Canada 150, poised to lead the celebrations in
Canadian communities in 2017. It is an immersive media touring
experience that will travel across the country in 2017, engaging
Canadians through an original 360° film, interactive content, live
events, online activities and education programs showcasing the best in
Canadian culture and innovation. This will be a once-in-a-generation
opportunity to experience Canada like it's never been experienced
before.
-- CBC/Radio-Canada is an Official Partner of the 150ALLIANCE, an open
network of organizations, groups and individuals working to make the
most out of Canada's 150th anniversary of Confederation.
CBC/Radio-Canada will tap into the 150Alliance's national network to
highlight the diverse array of events and activities taking place in
every province and territory for Canada's sesquicentennial.
-- CBC/Radio-Canada is also an Official Partner of COMMUNITY FOUNDATIONS OF
CANADA and its national network of 191 community foundations. Leveraging
the deep local roots community foundations have from coast to coast to
coast, CBC/Radio-Canada will showcase the stories and impact of their
work, including the local initiatives being funded through the Community
Fund for Canada's 150(th).
-- CBC/Radio-Canada is pleased to announce CIBC as the first lead partner
of Canada 150 in 2017, corresponding with the bank's own 150(th)
birthday. Details around the partnership will be announced at a later
date.
PROGRAMMING HIGHLIGHTS*
CBC and Radio-Canada are each creating robust lineups of 2017-themed programming across all platforms that will provide audiences an opportunity to discover and share the diverse perspectives of Canadians across the country who shape who we are today; challenging stereotypes and creating a vision of Canada's future together.
The offer will include programming from all content areas, including documentaries, news specials, radio programs, kids programs, entertainment and arts specials, and innovative digital and virtual reality initiatives. *(Comprehensive and complete programming information and broadcast schedules to be announced at a later date.)
Here are a couple of highlights:
-- Starting with coverage of this year's CANADA DAY celebrations across the
country, the Corporation's English and French news services will take a
lead role in covering the Canadian stories that continue to unfold
across the countdown to January 1st and throughout 2017, with additional
special 2017-themed news programs along the way.
-- CBC News (live, July 1, 2016) kicks off its coverage by inviting
Canadians to share their personal stories about what defines Canada to
them. Throughout 2017, CBC will offer multiple interactive programming
experiences with these stories, reflecting the country back to our
audiences in surprising new ways.
-- CBC highlights include CANADA: THE STORY OF US, an epic ten-part
television history series that tells the extraordinary story of the
people, places and events that have shaped our country. It's the
stories of Indigenous peoples and immigrants; pioneers and rule
breakers; and scientists and entrepreneurs who forged a nation in a vast
and harsh land. The series will combine fact-based drama with stunning
CGI animation, and feature interviews with Canada's most important
national figures; and a digital-first series called BECOMING CANADIAN,
that will focus on stories from the 250,000 new Canadians who will take
the Oath of Citizenship this year.
-- Radio-Canada presents LA GRANDE TRAVERSÉE, a television adventure
series that gives ten young adventurers the opportunity to recreate the
epic ocean voyage of the settlers from France to Quebec, on a classic
three-mast yacht; and STANLEY VOLLANT: DE COMPOSTELLE À KUUJJUAK, in
collaboration with Radio-Canada's regional centres, a two-part
mini-series that tells the story of Stanley Vollant, the first
Indigenous surgeon in Quebec, known for his walk, Innu Meshkenu, which
aims at raising Indigenous people's awareness of healthy living.
-- CBC Radio One and ICI Radio-Canada Premiere will partner to launch a
national initiative - WHAT'S YOUR STORY?/LA ROUTE DES 20 - that will
recruit young diverse Millennials to tell the contemporary story of
Canada across all platforms throughout 2017.
