Ally-sponsored Television Vignettes for DPTV Win Michigan EMMY®

Ally-sponsored Television Vignettes for DPTV Win Michigan EMMY®

Videos highlight financial literacy and money concepts for children

DETROIT, June 20, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Ally announced today that the Get Smart with Your Money series of short television vignettes that it launched with Detroit Public Television (DPTV), which focused on money concepts for kids, won a Michigan EMMY® award. The vignettes launched in December 2015 and will continue to air on local WTVS Channel 56 throughout 2016.

The content for the vignettes is based on Ally's Wallet Wise program, a free financial education initiative that teaches consumers the basics of budgeting, credit, banking and investing, and auto finance through in-person sessions and online sessions.

Each of the videos focuses on a basic money skill or concept for DPTV's young audience. For example, one video gives viewers ideas of chores they might do around the house to earn an allowance, while another highlights a child bringing lunch to school instead of buying lunch in order to save money.

The new vignettes, titled "My Two Cents: Learn to Earn", "My Two Centers: Money Tree", "The Power of Money: Assemble", "The Power of Money: Kid Calculator" and "The Power of Money: The Spendthrift", can be viewed here.

"We are extremely proud that this series has been recognized with a Michigan EMMY®," said Gina Proia, chief communications officer and head of citizenship efforts at Ally. "We believe that teaching children about money at an early age helps them to build good habits for the future, and we are pleased that our relationship with DPTV provides a platform to help advance education for young people in this area."

Created by the Michigan chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), the Michigan EMMY® represents the most experienced and talented television professionals from all disciplines of the industry and from all of Michigan's 11 television markets. Winners were announced at the 38th EMMY® Gala on June 18, 2016 at the MotorCity Casino Sound Board Theater in Detroit.

This is the second series of financial education vignettes that DPTV produced with Ally's support. The first series debuted in 2012 and was nominated for a Michigan EMMY® in the Community/Public Service (PSA) category.
