Eight Home Cooks Remain After One of the Most Difficult Pressure Tests in MASTERCHEF CANADA History

TORONTO, April 17, 2016 /CNW/ - Following a Canadian Oktoberfest celebration and a challenging cheese-filled Pressure Test that saw the home cooks make their own ricotta, MASTERCHEF CANADA judges Michael Bonacini, Alvin Leung, and Claudio Aprile revealed that accountant Jacqueline Clark from Abbotsford, B.C. would be leaving the competition. On the upcoming all-new MASTERCHEF CANADA next Sunday, April 24 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on CTV and the CTV GO app, the remaining Top 8 home cooks are faced with intimidating ingredients inspired by a nursery rhyme.

On tonight's episode of MASTERCHEF CANADA, the Top 9 split into three teams and faced off by selling handmade sausages as part of an Oktoberfest celebration at Hansa Haus, a German Canadian Club in Mississauga, ON. As winners of last week's Elimination Challenge, Shawn Karls, Mary Berg, and Terry Adido were the team captains, with each selecting a different meat to work with from pork, lamb, and beef. Cooking for 250 people, each team was responsible for seasoning, stuffing, and grilling their gourmet sausages, as well as preparing toppings and a side.

The Green Team started off slowly with indecisive team leader Terry, but April Lee Baker helped pull them in the right direction after she revealed she's been making sausages with her family for 15 years. Though the other two teams decided on their dishes quickly, Shawn's Red Team realized they had overstuffed their sausages and a number of them broke with only 20 minutes left to go putting them behind with preparation. And trying to get her Blue team back on track after serving a guest a raw sausage, Mary suffered a bad burn to her thumb while working with the grill. At the end of the challenge, the Hansa Haus children's dance troupe performed for the home cooks and revealed that Terry, April Lee, and Jennifer Baglione's Green Team were the winners of the challenge.

Back in the MASTERCHEF CANADA Kitchen, the Red and Blue team members prepared to face a Pressure Test, and were surprised when the judges revealed each team would have 45 seconds to select a team member who would be safe from elimination. With Jeremy Senaris and Veronica Cham heading to the safety of the gallery, the remaining home cooks were given only one hour to complete one of the toughest Pressure Tests in MASTERCHEF CANADA history. Shawn, Mary, Jacqueline, and Matthew Astorga had to prepare fresh ricotta cheese and then use it to create handmade ravioli as well as gnudi. Both Jacqueline and Matthew suffered setbacks as they didn't have enough ricotta, while Shawn revealed he dislikes cheese and wouldn't taste either of his dishes. In the end, Mary was sent to safety thanks to her ricotta stuffed ravioli in a lemon brown butter sauce, and olive oil and tomato gnudi, while Jacqueline's ricotta stuffed ravioli in a shallot white wine cream sauce and gnudi puttanesca with capers and anchovies ultimately led to her being sent home.

On an all-new episode of MASTERCHEF CANADA (Sunday, April 24 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on CTV and CTV GO), the Top 8 are divided into teams and tackle a set of intimidating ingredients inspired by a nursey rhyme. Members of the losing team must fight to save themselves by mastering a world-class pastry.
