TORONTO, March 27, 2016 /CNW/ - For the first time ever on MASTERCHEF CANADA, two home cooks faced a surprise double Pressure Test that resulted in makeup artist Julia Mark of Burnaby, B.C. being sent home by judges Michael Bonacini, Alvin Leung, and Claudio Aprile. Following a hiatus on Sunday, April 3 for THE 2016 JUNO AWARDS, MASTERCHEF CANADA returns with an all-new episode on Sunday, April 10 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on CTV and the CTV GO app, as the Top 10 home cooks dig deep for a Mystery Box Challenge baking sweet treats inspired by love.

On tonight's episode of MASTERCHEF CANADA, the Top 11 home cooks faced off in a fashion forward Team Challenge in the gardens of Casa Loma in Toronto after previewing Pink Tartan's Spring collection. The home cooks were challenged with creating a three-course lunch for 16 of Canada's fashion elite, and guests included Pink Tartan's President and Design Director Kimberley Newport-Mimran, Joe Fresh founder Joe Mimran, and THE SOCIAL co-hosts Melissa Grelo, Cynthia Loyst, and Lainey Lui, among others.

After seeing Pink Tartan's Spring collection, the home cooks split into two teams and began planning their three-course menus. Taking their inspiration from what they saw during the fashion show, each team had to create one vegetarian, one seafood, and one meat dish. With Jacqueline Clark and Veronica Cham serving as captains of the blue and red teams respectively, the first issue came for the Red Team during the preparation for their first course when Chef Claudio Aprile questioned the portion size of their beet salad. In an attempt to correct the issue, Veronica began slicing more beets but injured her thumb on a mandolin with only minutes left to plate their dishes. The team managed to serve their sliced beets and ricotta with white asparagus and fennel salad, but it was the Blue Team's beet tartar with watermelon, goat cheese, and balsamic reduction that won the guests over.

For the second course, the pressure was on for the Blue Team's Jeremy Senaris as he was tasked with making the perfect crab sushi rolls, despite not having a sushi mat. Their dish was up against the Red Team's crab cakes and couscous on fresh hummus, and it was the Blue Team's dish that received praise from both Lainey Lui and Joe Mimran. The meat course tripped up Shawn Karls, who undercooked the herb-crusted lamb ribs forcing the Blue Team to pan fry individual slices with minutes to go before service. The Red Team's lamb lollipops with arancini and mushrooms two ways were a hit with the guests, but despite their strong meat course, it was revealed by a model in a blue dress that the judges had selected the Blue Team as the challenge winner.

Back in the MASTERCHEF CANADA kitchen, the losing Red Team faced the judges. Team captain Veronica was given the opportunity to save herself, but instead chose to send Michelle Nault to safety. The remaining home cooks were tasked with creating a butter-poached maritime lobster in only 20 minutes. Matthew Astorga had the best dish of the Pressure Test with April Lee Baker coming in second, and Veronica was also sent to safety and into the Top 10. Both Julia Mark and Terry Adido found themselves in the bottom two, but for the first time in MASTERCHEF CANADA history the judges gave the home cooks a second chance at a spot in the Top 10. Julia and Terry had to complete an additional Pressure Test and replicate a steak au poivre in only 15 minutes. After the challenge was complete the judges tasted both dishes and revealed that Julia would be leaving MASTERCHEF CANADA.

On an all-new episode of MASTERCHEF CANADA (Sunday, April 10 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on CTV and CTV GO), the remaining Top 10 must dig deep to bake sweet treats inspired by love. The winning home cook is empowered with a versatile mystery ingredient, and must choose a competitor to cook with the ingredient's fresh or canned version.
