Elite orchestra, chamber music and crossover artists gather and perform in intimate settings in small-town atmosphere surrounded by wine country and coastal destinations

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif., Feb. 25, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Founded in 1971, each summer FESTIVAL MOZAIC transforms the Central Coast of California into a hotbed of classical music. July 13-24, 2016, Music Director Scott Yoo will lead a group of more than 60 visiting artists gathered from top orchestras and chamber ensembles from around the world in performances in scenic venues all over picturesque San Luis Obispo County. Scott Yoo, conductor and violinist, was recently appointed Artistic Director of the Mexico City Philharmonic.

Conveniently located on the coast just three hours from the Bay Area and just three hours from downtown Los Angeles, San Luis Obispo County is home to farm-to-table bistros, galleries, boutiques, hiking trails and seaside activities, and wine tasting. The musicians of FESTIVAL MOZAIC will bring their international-caliber artistry, celebrating the works of composers both familiar and out-of-the-ordinary. With 27 events in 14 different venues, the Festival offers something for every music lover and provides an authentic SLO experience offering the best in culinary, coastal and cultural life.


-- Notable Encounters - These short-format explorations of individual
pieces of music combine performance and education in a social setting,
breaking down the barrier between performer and audiences and shining a
light on composers and music history. Composers explored: Arnold
Schoenberg, Prokofiev, Schubert & Carl Nielsen.
-- Orchestra Concerts -conducted by music director Scott Yoo and featuring
soloists such as Bobby Hill, acclaimed boy soprano who caught the
spotlight when he sang for the Pope on his recent U.S. Visit (Mahler
Symphony No. 4) and John Novacek, piano (Mozart Piano Concerto No. 24 in
C minor, K. 391)
-- Chamber Music - small ensembles feature performers like Steven Copes,
violin, St Paul Chamber Orchestra; Romie de Guise-Langlois, clarinet,
Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center; Robert Walters, English Horn,
of the Cleveland Orchestra; Fei Xie, bassoon, of the Baltimore Symphony
Orchestra and others.
-- Fringe series-- classically-trained artists perform in innovative
crossover ensembles: Brooklyn-based PROJECT Trio, Italy musical comedy
group Duo Baldo, Intersection Trio and The Other Mozart, an acclaimed
one-woman theatre piece about Nannerl Mozart
The music of Mozart, Bach and Brahms will be played alongside Mahler, Schubert, Britten and many more. Listeners can also enjoy Britten, Prokofiev and other musical masters in charismatic venues such as Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, Chapel Hill in wine country, and the state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center San Luis Obispo and Cuesta College Cultural and Performing Arts Center.
