Montréal and the gouvernement du Québec support the 17th edition of Montréal en lumière
MONTRÉAL, Feb. 18, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - The celebrations surrounding MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE will soon begin, and the Ville de Montréal and gouvernement du Québec wish to reiterate their support for this lively winterfest, which is held February 18 to March 5, 2016, mainly in the Quartier des spectacles.
MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE receives a financial contribution of $600,000 from the city through financial assistance from the gouvernement du Québec, as part of the Entente Montréal 2025, which is managed by the Secrétariat à la region métropolitaine. Montréal also provides logistics support for the event.
"Montréal is pleased to support this year's edition of Montréal en lumière celebrating the Chinese city of Shenzhen, which is recognized as a centre for the arts and culture. MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE contributes significantly to the city's cultural and tourist offer, and we are convinced that, again this year, the festivities will enjoy a great success. I invite Montrealers and visitors to discover a diversified program during these few weeks and gather in large numbers to warm up the Quartier de spectacles," said the Mayor of Montréal, Denis Coderre.
"MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE is a major winterfest which attracts hundreds of thousands of people from everywhere each year and adds to the vitality and cultural reputation of Montréal. It also generates significant economic spinoffs for the city," said the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy, Minister of Public Security and Minister responsible for the Montréal region, Martin Coiteux.
The Mayor of Montréal acknowledged the Chinese representatives who will be honoured at this festival. Last fall, Mayor Coderre led a trade mission to China, which brought together a large delegation from Montréal. As part of this mission, a cooperation agreement was signed with the Mayor of Shenzhen, Xu Qin, covering innovation, transportation and sustainable development. This agreement was announced officially in Shenzhen in the presence of Jacques-André Dupont, President and Managing Director of L'Équipe Spectra.
The complete program of MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE is available on the web.
