ANSI Achieves Accreditation Body Qualifications under the European Union Electromagnetic Compatibility and Radio Equipment Directives

Latest Recognition by NIST-National Voluntary Conformity Assessment System Evaluation (NVCASE) Program

NEW YORK, Feb. 10, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has successfully demonstrated compliance with all accreditation body qualifications under the European Union (EU) Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Directive and Radio Equipment Directive (RED). ANSI will offer notified body (NB) accreditation under the conformity assessment standard ISO/IEC 17065, Conformity Assessment - Requirements for bodies certifying product, process and services.

ANSI is listed under the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) U.S. Accreditation Bodies for NB Activities webpage, and is recognized as successfully establishing compliance with all accreditation body qualifications included in Section 10 of the NIST Requirements and Application for U.S. Conformity Assessment Bodies Seeking (EMC) Directive 2014/30/EU Notified Body Status and the NIST Requirements & Application for U.S. Conformity Assessment Bodies Seeking EU (RED) 2014/53/EU Notified Body Status.

ANSI's latest recognition falls under guidelines of the NIST-National Voluntary Conformity Assessment System Evaluation (NVCASE) program, which assists federal agencies in organizing product certification and related activities to ensure that products or processes comply with U.S. or foreign requirements included in trade agreements such as Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs). NVCASE assesses accreditors based on the criteria of ISO/IEC 17011:2004, Conformity assessment - General requirements for accreditation bodies accrediting conformity assessment bodies, and the NVCASE Program Handbook, NISTIR 6440:2004 ED.

"ANSI is honored to receive this continued recognition as part of our 15-year partnership with NIST on the NVCASE program," said Lane Hallenbeck, ANSI vice president for accreditation services. "NIST's continuing recognition of the Institute's accreditation services helps foster global commerce. Manufacturers who sell electrical and radio equipment can rely upon a single set of test results and product certifications accepted across national borders."
