The Delta Lady, Rita Coolidge, Making her Mariposa Folk Festival Debut
ORILLIA, ON, Dec. 8, 2015 /CNW/ - Organizers of the storied Mariposa Folk Festival taking place July 8, 9, 10, 2016, announced today that cherished music icon, Rita Coolidge, will anchor the event's Friday evening Main Stage line-up.
Rita Coolidge has been associated with performers like Joe Cocker, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Leon Russell, Stephen Stills, George Harrison, Roger Waters, Robbie Robertson and Jimmy Buffett. During her eight-year union with Kris Kristofferson, the pair teamed up for a number of hits and twice won a Grammy Award for Country Duo of the Year.
Her career reached stratospheric levels with recordings like All Time High, the theme song for the James Bond thriller, Octopussy; Love Came For Me, which appeared on the soundtrack of the movie Splash; and Heart Don't Fail Me Now (with Lee Greenwood), the recurring theme music for the CBS daytime drama As The World Turns. Other singles such as We're All Alone, Higher And Higher, and The Way You Do The Things You Do, have also earned a place as enduring classics of popular music.
With her place on the music scene secured, Rita Coolidge moved on to other interests including artistic expression of her Cherokee heritage. Her memoir, Delta Lady, a story of music, stardom, love, family, heritage, and resilience, will be published by Harper Collins in April, 2016.
According to Mariposa Folk Festival Artistic Director, Mike Hill, "Rita Coolidge's unmistakable voice is as pure, sweet, and powerful as ever", adding "We are very proud to present the Delta Lady to a new generation of audience, as well as to legions of fans spanning nearly five decades."
The 3-day Mariposa Folk Festival will feature folk/roots song, story, dance and craft on eleven stages. All categories of ticket are now on sale at the best available price. Kids 12 & under are admitted free. Tent and RV camping is available on site.
