International Bowling Museum Launches Frame For Frame Project To Preserve Historical Bowling Footage

Over 1,400 Rolls of Priceless Bowling Footage Will Be Lost Without Digitization

ARLINGTON, Texas, Dec. 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame is pleased to announce the launch of Frame for Frame, a year-long movie festival honoring filmmakers who have artistically included bowling in their movies. The mission of the Frame for Frame project is to raise funds to rescue the museum's world-class film collection, while celebrating the significant role bowling has played in Hollywood. This project will provide grants for future filmmakers and make the footage available for public use. Preservation of the film collection boosts the museum's educational mission as a resource for exhibits and movies that will affect millions of people.

Quietly, over the last three decades, the Museum has amassed an amazing film collection. This treasure trove of bowling footage includes presidents, politicians, movie stars and notable athletes laughing it up on the lanes. A recent gift to the Museum includes every Championship Bowling event on ABC from 1954 to 1960, featuring every famous bowler from Dick Weber to Don Carter. Significant donations are necessary to cover the nearly $200,000 the digitalization will cost.

"Over half a million feet of film is in a precarious position. Unless we quickly salvage the entire catalogue, the entire collection will disintegrate," opines Museum Curator Jessica Bell. "Over 1,400 rolls of film need to be digitized."

"The museum's film collection is in need of help as it is deteriorating with time. Without digitization it will all be lost and future filmmakers will lose out on the chance to use it. Donations are needed to help preserve the history of bowling which has made such a profound impact on American culture," states Director of Development Gregg Williams.

The inaugural event for the Frame for Frame project will kick off with the premiere of Sex, Death and Bowling, a feature film starring Adrian Grenier and Selma Blair, followed by a special appearance by director Ally Walker, at the December 3(rd) fundraiser at the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame in Arlington, Texas. The film, distributed by Monterey Media, features some of the Museum's archival bowling footage.

There will also be a ribbon cutting ceremony in honor of the new film exhibit, which will showcase the relationship between Hollywood and bowling with artifacts and props from various television shows and movies including Laverne and Shirley, Tom and Jerry, KingPin, The Big Lebowski and more. The exhibit will also have a section dedicated to Sex, Death and Bowling.
