Rose d'Or trophies were presented in eleven categories including Comedy, Game Show,
Arts and Talk Show following a record-breaking number of entries. Radio awards were
included for the second time in the event's 54 year history.
EBU Members BBC (UK), NPO (The Netherlands) and Channel 4 (UK) were all recognised.
British actor Stephen Fry was honoured with a lifetime achievement award for his
outstanding contribution to the entertainment industry.
Speaking on programme making after receiving the award for lifetime achievement, Fry
noted that: "the real truth about broadcasting is that it's about making the best
programmes and those are to do with individuals, characters and emotions." Underlining how
the entertainment industry is about people and stories, he went on to note that: "it's not
technology that tells stories, it's human beings."
Fry won a Rose d'Or Award in 2006 for "Best Game Show Host" in the BBC series QI.
The ceremony, which was attended by around 200 industry luminaries, was hosted by BBC
presenter Paddy O'Connell.
EBU Media Director Jean Philip de Tender highlighted the quality of 2015's nominees.
"This year's range, depth and quality of nominees was truly outstanding. That the Rose
d'Or can attract such high quality submissions is testament to its importance in the
industry. I congratulate all the winners - and all the runners up. The jury's job was
hard."
The nominations were announced in November 2015, with the jury selecting a shortlist
for the three best programmes in each of the eleven categories in television and radio
competing for a Rose d'Or.
The Rose d'Or Awards are one of the world's most prestigious awards for entertainment
programming. It is a Eurovision and Euroradio event, operated by the European
Broadcasting Union (EBU).
