OTTAWA, Nov. 5, 2015 /CNW/ - Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will visit Toronto on November 6 and 7, 2015, to participate in cultural events and to present Caring Canadian Awards.

Friday, November 6

Attend Discussion with Documentary Filmmaker at the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival
Her Excellency Sharon Johnston will attend a talk with documentary filmmaker Elisa Paloschi on her 10-year journey to capture the remarkable story of Selvi, who became South India's first female taxi driver. Mrs. Johnston had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Paloschi during a State visit to India in 2014.

The Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival showcases contemporary Asian cinema and work from the Asian diaspora. For more information, please visit www.reelasian.com.

Rendezvous With Madness Film Festival
Their Excellencies will deliver remarks at the opening of the Rendezvous With Madness Film Festival, presented by Workman Arts. They will then attend the premiere of Swift Current, the story of former NHL hockey player Sheldon Kennedy.

Their Excellencies will participate in the Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association's (CanTRA) 35(th) anniversary appreciation event. Her Excellency will deliver brief remarks. Afterwards, His Excellency will present two Caring Canadian Awards to CanTRA volunteers. The list of recipients and their citations follow.

CARING CANADIAN AWARD
RECIPIENTS AND CITATIONS

Ann Caine
Puslinch, Ontario

Through the healing power of horses, Ann Caine turned personal tragedy into a world of possibilities, which has had a great impact on therapeutic riding in Canada and around the world. As a founding member of the Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association in Canada (CanTRA) and the Ontario Therapeutic Riding Association, she led and supported the incorporation of medical professionals in therapeutic riding programs, and played an important role in developing para-equestrian sport at the recreational and Paralympic levels.

Eliane Trempe
Sorel-Tracy, Quebec

Eliane Trempe was the force behind the development of therapeutic riding in the province of Quebec. She founded the Fédération québécoise d'équitation thérapeutique (FQET) in 2000, and joined the CanTRA board in 2005, with which she continues to serve. She has initiated the FQET membership eligibility rule that requires member centres to also be CanTRA-accredited, as this field is not protected by federal or provincial government regulations.
