ST. GEORGE, Utah, Aug. 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Dixie State University and the DOCUTAH International Documentary Film Festival(TM) today announced that Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes will attend the screening of Prophet's Prey at the O.C. Tanner Amphitheater in Springdale, Utah on September 11 at 8 p.m. and participate in a Q&A panel session hosted by Doug Fabrizio, noted public broadcasting journalist, following the screening. (see earlier press release). Attorney General Reyes' presence at the event, which will include a press conference at 6 P.M. and a fundraiser hosted by Holding Out HELP, reinforces the commitment of the Utah Attorney General's office to protect citizens, particularly children, from sexual and labor abuses.

"It's an honor to attend a uniquely southern Utah film festival like DOCUTAH and be asked to represent the Utah law enforcement perspective on the Prophet's Prey panel. I hope to lend support to victims as well as those aiding survivors who have been disenfranchised for speaking against oppression," said Attorney General Reyes. "As the film chronicling Warren Jeff's predatory crimes of abuse and manipulation debuts nationally, it is important for those viewing the film to understand that this is the exception in Utah. Utah law enforcement continues to take seriously any actions like the crimes committed by Jeffs. We will continue to help innocent victims and survivors of the Jeffs' reign, while aggressively pursuing cases pertaining to sex and labor abuse as well as tax or other fraud."

The film, based on the New York Times Best Seller of the same name by Private Investigator Sam Brower, chronicles his ten year investigation into the Mormon Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints (FLDS) and the abuse of power by FLDS leader Warren Jeffs in the nearby towns of Colorado City, Arizona and Hildale in Southern Utah. Brower will attend the Festival this year and participate in a Q&A following the screening.

"We greatly appreciate the support of Attorney General Reyes in raising awareness of this human rights issue, which exists not only in our state, but in many other places in our country," said Phil Tuckett, Artistic Director for DOCUTAH, associate professor at Dixie State University and the Director of DSU Films. "We hope that by showing the film in the area where the FLDS started and with Attorney General Reyes' presence, we can engender national interest in addressing this issue."

"Small cities and counties simply do not have the resources to prosecute these offenses when even one case can cost millions of dollars in legal fees," said Brower. "That is where State and the Federal government could come in and assist local municipalities in bringing FLDS offenders to justice."
