TimePlay files patent infringement suit against Audience Entertainment
Company seeks permanent injunction and financial damages.
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ - Multi-player gaming systems pioneer and patent owner, TimePlay Inc. has filed suit against Audience Entertainment LLC alleging it has knowingly and willfully infringed TimePlay's United States patent US 8,951,124B2. TimePlay is seeking a permanent injunction against Audience Entertainment as well as monetary damages to be determined at trial.
"Patents are intended to promote innovation by giving inventors time to benefit from their innovations without interference from others," said Jon Hussman, President and CEO of TimePlay. "We have invested in developing our technology and proprietary IP worldwide. We intend to protect that investment and will vigorously pursue those who infringe our patents either directly and indirectly", he added.
TimePlay was the first to offer two-way multi-player gaming systems deployed in multi-person venues. TimePlay's patented technology turns a mobile device, such as a smartphone, into an interactive gaming device that can be used in venues with screens, such as movie theaters, to create a completely new group entertainment experience. TimePlay's gaming systems are used in over seven hundred venues throughout the United States and internationally.
With respect to this patent infringement suit, Mr. Hussman said, "Audience Entertainment's actions interfere with our rights to benefit from our innovation and the commercialization of our patent. We are simply asking the court to give us the protection we deserve and compensate us."
TimePlay has asked for a trial by judge and jury to hear its case against Audience Entertainment which seeks financial damages and/or royalties to be determined at trial and an injunction against Audience Entertainment's sale and operation of their technology. The lawsuit was filed in U.S. Federal District Court in the Central District of California. TimePlay is represented in the lawsuit by Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, a leading Silicon Valley technology law firm.
