--Only Rentrak Precisely Measures Movies & TV Everywhere--
PORTLAND, Ore., July 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Rentrak (NASDAQ: RENT), the leader in precisely measuring movies and TV everywhere, today announced the top weekly cross-platform entertainment rankings for July 8, 2015.
Paramount's "Terminator Genisys" led the worldwide weekend box office derby, earning a total of $101 million in 46 international territories plus North America. Universal had a banner weekend with their monster-sized "Jurassic World" adding another $71.2 million globally this weekend, bringing its global tally close to $1.4 billion. Meanwhile, Universal's diminutive "Minions" earned a not-so-small $54.3 million in 26 international territories in advance of its North American release later this week.
In North American box office action, Disney's "Inside Out" impressively took the top spot for the very first time in its third weekend of release, just barely outpacing Universal's "Jurassic World" with a mere $529,199 separating the two movies. "Inside Out" has a North American total to-date of nearly $250 million and "Jurassic World," with a $556.5 million total, is now the fifth-highest grossing film ever released domestically (and counting).
Warner Bros.' "Run All Night," an action-packed gangster crime thriller starring Liam Neeson, takes the top spot this week on our Movies on Demand chart, with Lionsgate's teen comedy "The DUFF" dropping to second place after a first place finish last week.
On our digital purchases and rentals chart, Fox's, "Kingsman: The Secret Service" continues to dominate the top spot with its amazing R-rated action premise with Sony's robot movie, "Chappie," in hot pursuit in second place. Warner Bros.' "Run All Night" climbed up the charts to the number three spot.
At the top of our DVD and Blu-ray Disc sales chart, in a repeat performance, Fox's "Kingsman: The Secret Service" guards its place at number one in its third week in release once again against Warner Bros.' "American Sniper" at number two. On the rentals side, "American Sniper" holds the top spot, followed by Sony's popular "Chappie."
Telemundo's "El Senor de los Cielos" once again tops our viewer engagement for broadcast telecasts chart, followed again this week by the "2015 NBA Finals" on ABC with third place going to ION's "Criminal Minds."
Our top viewer engagement for cable telecasts chart has a newcomer to the top spot with TNT's "Major Crimes" knocking last week's number one-ranked VH1's "Love and Hip Hop Atlanta" to the second spot followed by TNT's "Rizzoli & Isles."
On our combined social media and digital engagement chart for viewers of broadcast and cable telecasts, BBC America's "Top Gear" announced Chris Evans as its new lead as well as the rest of the line-up. The story was posted on Facebook and earned 3k+ interactions. This was followed by ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on which Fifth Harmony performed. The performance was uploaded to YouTube, where it received 891k+ views. The third spot went to ESPN's "SportsCenter" that posted a picture of the Curry family ready to celebrate on Instagram.
