-Only Rentrak Precisely Measures Movies & TV Everywhere-
PORTLAND, Ore., July 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Rentrak (NASDAQ: RENT), the leader in precisely measuring movies and TV everywhere, today announced the top weekly cross-platform entertainment rankings for July 29, 2015.
Universal's "Minions" continues to rake in the cash as the little guys dominate the worldwide box office adding another $66 million this weekend, bringing its total to a non-Minion sized $759.4 million. Disney/Marvel's "Ant-Man" also had a great weekend at the global box office with $60.1 million in 48 international territories plus North America. Notably, in the third spot, the 3-D fantasy-adventure "Monster Hunt" from China earned a whopping $46 million in just five territories and has $211 million in the bank, making it the highest-grossing Chinese movie in history.
In North American action, there was a very tight race for the top spot as Disney/Marvel's superhero comedy "Ant-Man" in its second weekend and Sony's Adam Sandler video game action-comedy "Pixels" in its debut, battled for the top spot, but "Ant-Man" takes it by a narrow margin with $24.9 million vs. "Pixels" $24.011 million.
On this week's Movies on Demand chart, the top three spots are taken over by Sony's "Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2," Warner Bros.' Farrell and Hart prison comedy "Get Hard" and the brilliant and mind-blowing sci-fi machinations of A24's "Ex Machina."
On our digital purchases and rentals chart, Warner Bros.' "Get Hard" now in its fifth week of release, holds on to the top spot while Fox's "Kingsman: The Secret Service" climbed back up the charts into the number two spot. Lionsgate's "71," a movie about a young British soldier that is accidentally abandoned by his unit following a riot on the deadly streets of Belfast in 1971, debuts on the charts in tenth position.
On our DVD and Blu-ray Disc sales chart this week, Fox's romantic drama set in the world of professional bull riders, "The Longest Ride" takes the top spot and is followed by the ubiquitous "Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2" and newcomer "Ex Machina."
This week on the DVD and Blu-ray Disc rentals side of the ledger, "Kingsman: The Secret Service" continues to reign at the top of the chart, followed by, you guessed it, "Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2" and the Will Smith caper-comedy "Focus," which refuses to leave the upper rankings even in its seventh week of release.
Univision's "Que te perdone Dios... yo no" leads on our viewer engagement for broadcast telecasts chart with Telemundo's "El Señor de los Cielos" in the second spot again this week, followed Univision's coverage of "Copa de Oro de la CONCACAF" Gold Cup futbol.
Our top viewer engagement for cable telecasts chart shows TNT's "Major Crimes" continuing to generate a lot of interest from viewers followed by TNT's "Rizzoli & Isles" and VH1's continuously-popular "Love and Hip Hop Atlanta."
Finally, on our combined social media and digital engagement chart for viewers of broadcast and cable telecasts, NBC's "America's Got Talent" host Nick Cannon received a kissing lesson from an intimacy expert and the video was uploaded on YouTube, receiving 1.6M+ views. Comedy Central's "Key & Peele" posted on Facebook a reminder of the show's return with the post garnering 22k+ interactions. SpikeTV's "Lip Sync Battle" uploaded a video to YouTube of Will Arnett singing "Everything is Awesome" and as a result, the video gained 1.6M+ views.
