Healthy School Lunches for Back to School

Ellen Stokes, MS, RD, LD

Culinary Instructor

The Art Institute of Atlanta

"Let your children help plan their lunch menus a week in advance. Guide them in making healthful choices that include lean protein and fresh fruits and vegetables, while keeping chips and sugar-added sweets to a minimum."

With back to school just around the corner, Stokes can share ways to involve children in lunch preparation, how to help children make healthy choices, food safety tips when packing a lunch box, and recipes for kid-friendly, healthy lunches. She writes and creates videos about nutrition education, food safety, menu planning, grocery shopping, and healthful cooking on a budget. She has worked with organizations and companies including the Partnership for Food Safety Education, the University of Georgia Food Science Department, and Golden Cuisine.

Is America Ready for a Gay President?

Angela Giampolo

Founder

PhillyGayLawyer.com, Giampolo Law Group

"Is America ready for a gay president? Absolutely, and I'm not the only one who thinks so. Jimmy Carter said this back in 2010! It'll happen sooner than America realizes -- two to three election cycles. Also, let's be real and ask ourselves, 'Have we already had one?' There have always been questions about 'bachelor' president James Buchanan from my home state of Pennsylvania."

Based in Philadelphia, Giampolo's practice focuses on LGBT law, corporate transactions, civil rights, employment discrimination, real estate, domestic and international adoptions, and estates.

Crowdfunding to Pay for College Not a Good Strategy

Steven Sirot

Co-Founder

College Benefits Research Group

"Affording college in today's environment is a huge undertaking. Never before has the cost grown so exponentially and student loan debt reached such unmanageable proportions. It is understandable that with the prevalence of websites where anyone can ask for funding, this would be a tempting option. Yet, as proven time and time again, there are no easy fixes."

Sirot can discuss the downsides of using crowdfunding to pay for college, such as what happens if you run out of money after the first couple of years and have to drop out to fund more or, even worse, take on hefty loans that would take years to pay back. He co-founded College Benefits Research Group (CBRG) along with David N. Slater and Janet Loren, an educational counselor and Certified Educational Planner. CBRG demonstrates how a private and/or public education is affordable and attainable and allows hard-working families to hit a "home run" in finding the right school, academically, socially and financially, for their child. CBRG also assists with the filing of financial aid forms.

Was Paris Hilton in on the Plane Crash Prank?

Carl Christman

Mentalist and Speaker

"In a recent prank filmed in Dubai, an airplane with Paris Hilton onboard pretended to have engine difficulties and began plummeting to the ground while cameras rolled. Some have questioned whether Hilton was actually in on the prank. After carefully analyzing the footage, I believe Hilton exhibited signs of deception. Her body language and facial expressions were not consistent with someone actually fearing for her life. Her micro-expressions revealed signs of contempt, rather than fear. This would be expected when someone is on a prank and trying to trick others."

Christman is a teacher, author, and speaker. He plays with language, psychology and non-verbal communication to educate and entertain audiences. His bestselling book, "How to Read Minds and Influence People," explores communication from a radically different perspective. It unlocks the science of mind reading and helps people harness the power of persuasion. It offers readers the tools to relate to people and positively influence them.

Bill Cosby Admitted to Getting Drugs to Give to Women for Sex

Dr. Frieda Birnbaum

Research Psychologist, Psychoanalyst

Bill Cosby admitted in 2005 to giving Quaaludes to at least one woman and getting the drugs to give to other women he wanted to have sex with, according to a report by The Associated Press. Cosby's admissions were part of a 2005 lawsuit. Says Dr. Birnbaum: "This revelation that Cosby admitted 10 years ago on public record to drugging women for sex is shocking and appalling. For nearly a year, Cosby has been playing the 'innocent victim' in the face of multiple women accusing him of sex abuse. Analyzing Cosby's public behavior and body language since these shocking allegations broke, I found him to be someone who was not being truthful and someone who is hiding something. What the actual truth is or what he may be hiding I cannot say with certainty, but his behavioral actions are the antithesis of an innocent person accused. Many of the women who have come forward with allegations of sex abuse against Cosby share similar stores. Admitting to being a victim of sex abuse is extremely difficult and mentally devastating. This news might be the final straw that forever shatters Cosby's reputation in the eyes of millions."

Based in the New York metropolitan area, Dr. Birnbaum is author of "What Price Power: An In-Depth Study of the Professional Woman in a Relationship." She's an expert on depression, women's issues, and attaining happiness. She was featured on "Oprah" and "20/20" as the oldest woman in the U.S. to have twins.

Prenups Protect Everyone's Best Interests

Brad LaMorgese

Family Law Attorney

Orsinger, Nelson, Downing & Anderson LLP in Dallas

The split of celebrity couple Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner the day after their 10th wedding anniversary has sparked questions about the possible existence of a premarital agreement between the two. Says LaMorgese: "That is likely, as we typically see marital agreements requested when a person seeks to safeguard any significant wealth they brought into the marriage. In exchange, the other spouse will often be promised a specific sum in the form of alimony and other distribution of wealth at the time of divorce. As cynical as it seems, filing after a certain point in the marriage can result in one of the parties gaining or saving thousands or, in the case of Affleck and Garner, millions of dollars. Premarital agreements frequently include a change in the money due to a spouse triggered by certain dates. That is why it is not uncommon to see a divorce filed either before or after a significant milestone, such as a fifth, 10th or 25th anniversary."

New MTV Show Publicly Shames White People for 'What They've Done in America'

Lisa Durden

Pop Culture/Political Commentator

A new MTV documentary called "White People" purports to ask the "very uncomfortable" questions about white privilege and white frustration. It documents the perceived struggle that white teens and 20-somethings have in coming to terms with their identity. Dakota, a 22-year-old from a small town in Virginia, for example, has a moment of awakening when he joins a historically black college. Another student by the name of Katy is convinced that being white prevented her from receiving a scholarship to Grand Canyon University. Says Durden: "'White People' seems like it's going to be a must-see TV event. I'm all in. I can't wait to see this race debate. However, it really bugs me that when anybody other than black people try to have a discussion about how we are being treated, it falls on deaf ears and people clutch their pearls. Us telling our truth is somehow us being racists and not getting over slavery. But when a white person tells our story of racist treatment and how we observe white privilege, then it suddenly validates what we already know and experience every day as blacks. This documentary looks like it's going to be very entertaining but it won't do a thing for race relations or even the candid discussion on race in America, because if you aren't open to having this conversation coming from the black community and accepting racism as fact, then racism will continue to be a problem in America."

Durden is a sought-after African American pop culture/political commentator booked to share her "keep it real," "straight, no chaser" view on all things hot topics. She has appeared on Fox 5 News Live at 6 p.m. with Ernie Anastos and as a regular expert guest on nationally syndicated network radio and shows like FOX 5's "The Morning Show with Mike & Juliet," FoxNews.com's "The Strategy Room," Comcast's "It's Your Call: With Lynn Doyle," My9 News and more.
