Zambian community radio stations benefit from training in Good Governance and Accountability

WINDHOEK, Namibia, 29 May 2015 / PRN Africa / -- In its quest to promote good governance and sustainability among community radio stations, MISA Zambia facilitated good governance and financial accountability capacity building sessions on May 14, 2015.

The first of the trainings was conducted at Mphangwe Radio in the Eastern Province where members of the radio station's board were trained on various aspects of good governance and financial procedures.

Additionally, the visit included a town hall discussion forum at which members of the public could express their sentiments on various issues of national importance. Leading the visit was MISA Zambia Good Governance Programme Officer Nshamba Muzungu and Finance Officer Brian Chanakila.

The duo also conducted a monitoring and evaluation exercise on some of the activities conducted by the radio stations grant aided by MISA Zambia.

Several other stations are earmarked for similar visits and the team is currently in the Southern Province at Mosi-o-Tunya Radio in Livingstone where trainings will be delivered and town hall debates held. A visit to Livingstone visit took place on May 28.

Most of the stations visited are given a special grant by MISA Zambia to improve their programme with a view to making it more informative and participatory to enable the community voices to be heard, thereby contributing to the enjoyment of freedom of expression.
