SPEC FEST 2015 Slated For May 17
Inaugural Event to Showcase Original Music and Films by Performers With Autism
LOS ANGELES, May 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- SPECTRUM LABORATORY, a non-profit organization whose mission is to create original works of film and music within the autism community, will hold its inaugural film festival, Sunday, May 17, at the Huffington Center in Los Angeles (1324 S. Normandie Ave.) Admission is free.
Celebrity guests expected to attend include: America's first super model and autism advocate Cheryl Tiegs, Billy Baldwin, Daniel Baldwin,Joe Mantegna, Ed and Matt Asner, Isabella Hoffman, Peter Onorati and more.
The one hour festival will showcase original songs, music videos, and film shorts all recorded and shot in professional studios by performers with autism. Spectrum Laboratory focuses on the creation of original works of film and music within the autism community. What makes their approach unique is an emphasis on inclusion, bringing together young adults and teens, both on and off the autism spectrum, and providing collaboration with entertainment professionals to learn skills for the workplace. Spectrum Laboratory encourages a creative environment that both educates and entertains.
The festival is the first of its kind, giving a voice to those who would otherwise be unheard. Jason Weissbrod, head of the film department at Spec Lab, is a professional filmmaker and has worked within the autism community on programs including " The Miracle Project" ( based in the Emmy Award winning documentary "Autism: The Musical") , The Help Group, CSUN-TADW, and Vista Del Mar.
