-Only Rentrak Precisely Measures Movies & TV Everywhere-

PORTLAND, Ore., May 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Rentrak (NASDAQ: RENT), the leader in precisely measuring movies and TV everywhere, today announced the top weekly cross-platform entertainment rankings for May 20, 2015.

Disney/Marvel's summer mega-hit "Avengers: Age of Ultron" got off to a phenomenal start in China, grossing a truly staggering $156.3 million in the six days since its Tuesday debut, pushing it to the number one spot on our global chart. Along with the solid performance in other international territories and North America, the total global gross for "Avengers: Age of Ultron" now stands at $1.143 billion, which makes it the eighth highest grossing film of all time. Warner Bros.' "Mad Max: Fury Road" blasted into cinemas in 68 international markets, grossing an impressive $65 million with a global total of $110.4 million. Universal's "Pitch Perfect 2" had a solid international weekend, earning $26.9 million in 29 markets for a total of $38.1 million and a worldwide total of $107.3 million.

In North America, Universal's PG-13 "Pitch Perfect 2" earned more in its opening weekend ($69.2 million) than the original "Pitch Perfect" earned in its entire theatrical run ($65.001 million) in North America. Debuting in second place is Warner Bros.' brilliant and groundbreaking R-rated "Mad Max: Fury Road" from director George Miller, starring Tom Hardy as the title character and Charlize Theron in a career-defining performance as "Furiosa." This movie drew critical accolades across the board and audiences responded to the tune of $45.4 million this weekend.

On our digital purchases and rentals chart, Sony's "The Wedding Ringer" celebrated this week at number one. Warner Brothers, "American Sniper," now in its second week of release, continues to hit the bullseye with consumers, coming in at the number two position. Disney's 2012 release, "Marvel's The Avengers" climbed back onto the chart, landing in the seventh spot, thanks in large part to the recent theatrical release of "Avengers: Age Of Ultron."

Both our Movies on Demand chart and our DVD & Blu-Ray Disc sales chart are topped by Universal's erotic drama "Fifty Shades of Grey" which posted the biggest February opening weekend in theaters at $85.17 million earlier this year. Sony's Kevin Hart comedy "The Wedding Ringer" took top honors this week on our DVD & Blu-Ray Disc rentals and Movies on Demand charts (and on the aforementioned digital purchases and rentals chart). It was quite a solid week for Kevin Hart on the small screen.

Telemundo's "El Señor de los Cielos" tops the chart again this week followed by CBS's "Blue Bloods" and "NCIS: New Orleans" in third. There was a bit of a shake up on our cable TV engagement chart with TLC's reality show "19 Kids and Counting" at the top followed by TNT's broadcast of the "2015 NBA Playoffs" and A&E's acclaimed "Bates Motel."

On our combined social media and digital engagement chart for viewers of broadcast and cable telecasts, NBC's "The Voice" got their top eight underway this week. Sawyer Fredericks' "Simple Man" earned the most views this week with 980k+. ESPN's "SportsCenter" capitalized on all the conversations from the Mayweather and Pacquiao fight. They posted a 48-0 photo after the fight on Instagram, gaining 145k+ interactions. SpikeTV's "Lip Sync Battle" this week featured daytime talk show hosts Hoda Kotb vs. Michael Strahan. Hoda Kotb's battle song led the way this week with 619k+ views.
