Production of Film Set in German POW Camp in Maryland in 1944

FREDERICK, Md., May 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Urbane Legends Entertainment launched the crowd funding campaign for its new film, The Tears of Valour--set in a German POW camp in Maryland in 1944--on May 7, 2015, the 70(th) anniversary of the German surrender at the end of World War II.

The Tears of Valour tells the story of the daring escape attempt by a group of German prisoners-of-war from Camp Frederick. Although the story is fictional, it is based on a monthly average of 100 escape attempts nationwide. Two of the film's main themes are "humanity in war" and "the clash between individual conscience with political ideology." Almost 170 POWs in the United States were murdered by their fellow inmates for political reasons.

Between 1943 and 1946, the U.S. government held about 370,000 German POWs in over 500 camps nationwide. Camp Frederick alone was home for as many as 400 prisoners between September 1944 and May 1946. During that time, 525 farmers and 20 different industries employed prisoners from the camp, paying about $300,000 to the U.S. Army for their labor.

Principal photography is scheduled to begin in early September and end in late November 2015. Wesley Hunt will be Director of Photography. Having worked in Italy and the Czech Republic, Hunt holds an MFA in Film from American University in DC. Hunt was a 2014 nominee for the American Society of Cinematographers' Student Heritage Award.

German-born writer, actor, and director Reiner Prochaska wants his film to bring this little-known chapter in German-American history to audiences worldwide. His interest in local history inspired him to write A Revolutionary Christmas, the story of a German family on a local farm and their Hessian prisoner on Christmas Eve, 1788. Prochaska's play premiered at the Maryland Ensemble Theatre in December 2014.

The project's Indiegogo campaign is fiscally sponsored by Fractured Atlas, a nonprofit arts service organization; therefore, donations are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law:
