LOS ANGELES, Sept. 8 , 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Loyola Marymount University School of Film and Television has announced the second installment of The Hollywood Masters, which kicks off on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, with director Michael Mann (Last of the Mohicans, Heat, The Insider). The interview series was launched in February 2014 and welcomed such guests as Alfonso Cuarón, David O. Russell, Judd Apatow and Alan Horn to the LMU campus for in-depth interviews by award-winning journalist and SFTV Cosgrove Family Distinguished Visiting Artist Stephen Galloway.
The second season will examine the careers of such luminaries as James L. Brooks (director, Broadcast News; executive producer, The Simpsons), Charles Roven (producer, The Dark Knight, American Hustle), Billy Bob Thornton (actor-writer, Sling Blade, Monster's Ball), Hans Zimmer (composer, The Dark Knight, 12 Years a Slave), The Farrelly Brothers (directors, Dumb and Dumber, There's Something About Mary) and Hilary Swank (actress, Boys Don't Cry, Million Dollar Baby).
"We are thrilled to present The Hollywood Masters for a second season," said Stephen Ujlaki, dean of the Loyola Marymount University School of Film and Television. "It enhances the academic experience by exposing our students to the entertainment industry's most accomplished and respected figures. Hearing the individual stories of our distinguished guests, students gain firsthand career guidance and insight into a very competitive field."
"The unbelievable worldwide media coverage generated by the first season of the Masters interviews was a testament to the power of these great artists' work, and audiences' hunger for a real conversation about what they do. I'm thrilled to be able to continue this series with a second season, featuring some of the people I most admire in Hollywood today," added Galloway.
"We are excited about the range of guests that will be participating in The Hollywood Masters this season. In addition to leading directors and screenwriters, we have a legendary composer and an Oscar-winning actress who will share their stories and offer advice, giving students a well-rounded view of the entertainment industry," said series producer Anay Tarnekar.
The Cosgrove Family Distinguished Visiting Artist Endowment was established to support a distinguished artist whose work will create, teach, inspire and connect SFTV to the creative filmmaking community. Past Cosgrove artists include Deepa Mehta, Paula Wagner and Richard Taylor.
Hollywood Masters will be taped before a live student audience; the series will be shown on The Hollywood Reporter's website and is open to LMU students only. The series complements THR's signature Oscar Roundtables.
About Loyola Marymount University School of Film and Television
Movie industry moguls helped establish Loyola Marymount University's (LMU) current campus on the bluffs above west Los Angeles in the 1920s. By 1964, LMU was formally teaching film and television curriculum, and in 2001, the School of Film and Television (SFTV) was established as its own entity. Today, SFTV offers students a comprehensive education where mastering technical skills and story is equally important to educating the whole person, including the formation of character and values, meaning and purpose. SFTV offers undergraduate degrees in animation, production, screenwriting, film and television studies and recording arts; and graduate degrees in production, screenwriting and writing and producing for television. The school is one of the few film programs providing students with a completely tapeless model of production and post-production, and SFTV's animation program is one of the few worldwide that teaches virtual cinematography. Selected alumni include John Bailey, Bob Beemer, Francie Calfo, Patricia Whitcher, Brian Helgeland, Francis Lawrence, Lauren Montgomery, Jack Orman, Van Partible and James Wong, among others.
