Led by new 105- and 98-inch class sets (104.6 and 97.5 inches measured diagonally), the expanded lineup further advances LG's presence and leadership in the exploding Ultra HD market. The new 105UC9 and 98UB9800 Ultra HD TVs - ideally suited for custom-installation market where consumers demand larger screens and improved audio - are on display at the 2014 CEDIA Expo (Booth #140) this week.
On the other end of the Ultra HD spectrum, LG is rounding out its lineup with five new entry-level 4K LED TVs, including a value-packed 40-inch class model - all delivering on the promise of stunning 4K resolution with more than four times the picture detail of Full HD TV. All told, LG now offers 16 Ultra HD TVs, including the new 77- and 65-inch class Ultra HD 4K OLED TVs also launching this fall. (See separate news release.)
"Today's consumer is seeking the best performance, picture quality and sound," said David VanderWaal, head of marketing for LG Electronics USA. "Our expanded lineup, including large format sets with a combination of stellar picture quality and sound, along with the widest viewing angles and intuitive, fast Smart TV+ webOS(TM) platform, will provide consumers with a full set of comprehensive features and enhanced technologies."
Core Technologies Deliver Performance, Convenience
LG's TVs can display native 4K content in its full glory as it incorporates new technology standards - such as the latest HDMI interface and H.265 decoding - capable of handling Ultra HD programming, whether it's streamed over the Internet or playing from a USB or HDMI source. With these technologies on board, consumers will have an Ultra HD TV that will be ready to accept new sources of 4K content as they become available.* (All models meet or exceed the Consumer Electronics Association's new requirements for "Connected Ultra HDTVs".)
With advanced panels using IPS (In Plane Switching) technology, these LG Ultra HD TVs reproduce accurate color and provide and the widest horizontal viewing angles with less risk of color distortion or loss of contrast when compared to conventional VA-type LCD panels.
For 2014, all LG Ultra HD TVs include internet connectivity, with the majority featuring the Smart TV+ webOS(TM) platform - a refreshingly intuitive interface that makes it easier to find and transition between content options at speeds similar to regular channel changing. With webOS, live TV, streaming services and previously viewed content are all accessible via one click on the "launcher bar" menu. The platform also features recommendation capabilities to help consumers sift through its expansive content options, which include streaming services like Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Instant Video and Hulu Plus and more.**
Big Lineup Gets Even Bigger - and Smaller
Previewed at the 2014 International CES®, LG's award-winning 2014 line-up of Ultra HD 4K LED TVs range from 40-inch class models to 105-inch, with suggested prices ranging from $999 to $99,999:
-- 105UC9 Series - Boasting a subtly curved 8.75-foot (105") diagonal
screen with an 11 million pixel (5120 x 2160) resolution, this immersive
TV is designed to deliver magnificent picture quality and a wide viewing
angle with the ability to render the minutest detail. The screen matches
the 21:9 cinematic aspect ratio that many movies are filmed in,
virtually eliminating the black bars commonly visible with content
played from Blu-ray and DVD sources on conventional flat-panel TVs. It
also features LG's proprietary picture quality enhancing technologies
including direct LED lighting with local dimming, wide viewing angles
thanks to LG's IPS panel technology, and an Ultra Clarity Index (UCI) of
1560 for smooth motion. Additionally, it's equipped to display native 4K
content with the latest HDMI inputs and H.265 decoding and features LG's
Tru-4K Engine Pro upscaler for a 4K experience even with non-4K content.
The set is also equipped with LG's Smart TV + webOS(TM) platform. For
impressive sound, the TV includes a 7.2 channel, 150W speaker system
designed by harman/kardon. The 105UC9 will be available in November at a
suggested price of $99,999.
-- 98UB9800 - With a massive 98-inch class (97.5 inches diagonal) screen,
the UB9800 is designed to meet the needs of consumers that demand larger
screen sizes and improved sound to match 2160p resolution. This 16:9
Ultra HD 4K TV, with a screen that's over 8 feet diagonal, features LG's
proprietary picture quality enhancing technologies including direct LED
lighting with local dimming, wide viewing angles thanks to LG's IPS
panel technology, and an Ultra Clarity Index (UCI) of 1560 for smooth
motion. Ready to display native 4K content, it features multiple HDMI
inputs, H.265 decoding, Tru-4K Engine Pro and Smart TV+ webOS. The 9800
series also features a 5.2 channel 120W audio system by harman/kardon.
The 98-inch model will be available in November for a suggested price of
$39,999. The UB9800 series also includes 65-inch class (64.5-inch
diagonal), 79-inch class (78.5-inch diagonal) and 84-inch class
(84.0-inch diagonal) screen sizes.
In addition to these two new massive screen sizes, LG announced three new series: UB9200, UB8200 and UB8000. The new models in the LG Ultra HD 4K family are the 65-inch class (64.5 inches diagonal) 65UB9200; the UB8200 series, available in 60-, 55- and 49-inch class sizes (59.5, 54.6 and 48.5 inch diagonal); and the 40-inch class (39.5 inches diagonal) 40UB8000. All feature the latest HDMI connectivity, H.265 decoding and LG's Tru-4K Engine.
