"This episode highlights the acute need for continued research into this rare neurodegenerative disorder."
The rapid cognitive decline of Rusty Conlon, a Pittsburgh man living with mid-stage Huntington's, creates desperation for his wife, Patty, and their two children, Zach and Meghan, who each have a 50 percent chance of developing the disorder later in life. As the Conlon family struggles to get by, researchers are working tirelessly to find a way to stop Huntington's devastating progression. The Conlons hope the cure will come in time to save their children, but the unknown looms. "Rusty's Story" is an important documentary that educates viewers about Huntington's disease, medical research and why rare diseases can impact us all. This episode was filmed on location at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and University of California - Irvine.
